NUFC fans favourite Forest player

Lads and lasses

Just completed the Evening Chronicle Toon / Forest compo (3 out of 5 since you ask) and it got me thinking about past Forest clashes and in particular which Forest players stand out for me and NUFC in particular.

I know I am showing my age here but it may interest your (ahem) younger readers to know that one of the Forest players in particular had an almost cult - yes CULT (!) following amongst the toon fans or at least the Paddock where I habitually resided in the 'pre KK' days.

That players name was the great 'Johnny Metgod' and I am not exactly sure why he atrracted such popularity amongst the NUFC faithful other than the fact he was a sublimely gifted individual - it may have had something to do with the piledriver he delivered during one particular game at the City Ground in the 80's as I recall it or could it be that we admired him as a 'baldy' who was also mature enough not to give a toss?

Answers here please?

This piledriver??

I 'll confirm later when I get home from work Parisred - firewall bollocks - if its from 35+ yards out then that is the one - I was to the left of the goal as you look at it!
It is strange though, NUFC fans are notorious for hating everyone who doesn't or hasn't played for their club (although there are honorary exceptions to that rule namely Owen, Xisco, Marcelino) and I suppose you could say we are 'partisan' in that sense - but with Senor Metgod that rule clearly did not apply; there was no precedent before him and certainly none since - the fact that he was always being linked with joining the Club may have been a factor but I don't think so as there were plenty of others in that category.

Anyway - a top player !

Sorry Geordie boy but I am an older fan and I can never forgive the Newcastle fans for this.

That freekick is bloody amazing. No wonder Pearce had such a demon left peg at free kicks as well.

I am blind to You tube so you have me ata disadvantage Sir - let me guess FAC circa 1974 location = St James Park?
If so then that is a new thread on its own as well as an understandably raw wound - I can identify with that; why though did the Forest management agree to come back out to finish the game? they should have said 'bollocks to that' and they would have got the result - overconfidence perhaps?

I think it was just the opposite. Not having the confidence to challenge the 'carry on through everything' attitudes of the day. They were different times with different standards as reflected by the actions of the FA after the event. Had that happened in more recent times NUFC would have been playing behind closed doors for a season or so.

For example how many Newcastle fans were arrested and charged?

Threads on this forum do tend to 'wander'.

I don't disagree with what you say, I just think that the decision to come back out severely undermined the NFFC stance after the game when they appealed the decision - they didnt have a leg to stand on really after that.

The best decision for football certainly would have been to kick Newcastle out of the Cup but how often is that used as a precedent eiether then or since?
Anyway best of luck to you for the remainder of this season.

I seem to remember that the ref just asked them to come back out and in a state of near "shell shock" they did as they were told. Notwithdstanding Dave Serella getting a whack in the face.

Good post though my friend.

Johnny Metgod is now a coach at the sheep shaggers.
