NUFC commiserations to Forest

Hi Guys

Just wanted to say how disappointed I was that Forest didn't make it.
I am no friend of the 'play off' system and still believe the 'top 3' should be promoted on merit - they deserve it; Newcastle experienced a similar result in the early 90's when the m*****s did for us.

How often does it happen that teams who perform consistently well through the season fall at the play off 'hurdle'? In my view, the fact that those teams who have exerted themselves well and have striven to get into the 'auto' places appear to be at a disadvantage come the 'knock out' stages, compared to teams who do not perform so well - perhaps the effort catches up with them?

Having said that, Clubs know the rules of the competition before they enter it and I would have put money on you guys turning over Blackpool - who aren't in your class.

Best of luck next season I can only hope NUFC survive in the Prem and you can join us in 2011/2012.

Keep the faith

You don't really have a choice though do you? I shudder to think what might have happened if the play offs had been around in 1977...

Thanks for your comments, good luck next season.

Absolutely! lol

We've had an amazing season but losing out is a hard lesson. In hindsight, we haven't really performed consistently despite finishing third. We had a good away run of form during the first half which was then balanced by a great home run in the second. Sadly, we made a lot of naive and unnecessary errors along the way and failed to strengthen when we needed to most.

There are many areas of our game that need attention before we're in a position to physically take on Premiership competition. I think we all know what those areas are and it's going to be an interesting Summer.

We were absolutely right to give it our best crack and grasp the opportunity with both feet but we didn't get to Wembley for good reason and that's what we have to work on.

Our future is looking positive and we'll continue to progress at a sustainable rate so that when we do return to the Premiership, it will be for the long term.

Thank you for your good wishes and I hope that Newcastle establish their place in the top flight. We won't be far behind you. :)

PS. I just love the forum spell checker that brings up Womble as an alternative correction for Wembley!!! lol

Yeah good luck NUFC, nice to see you back in the premiership. Agreed about the ground, it is awsome and the premiership needs the best stadiums. Any chance of them installing a lift for the next time we play you!
