Notts Forest again

I know this has been discussed before but couldn't help being slightly annoyed when I read this

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/colum...final-on-a-madrid-roundabout-115875-21392138/

This bloke is their main football correspondent yet he can't get our name right. I know it doesn't bother some Forest fans but for me Notts is short for Nottinghamshire not Nottingham. No S in the latter. So if you must abbreviate it please use Nottm. In fairness he does get it right in the actual story

I think if you buy the Mirror, you can expect shoddy journalism. Get The Guardian instead.

Yes, football fans getting worked up about things which if you sit back and look at it logically perhaps aren't that important in the grand scheme of things, who ever would imagine that? :p

do you say down nottum or notts or town or city when you go out partaking in the nightlife?

Col

It's always 'town' to any Nottingham residents. Anyone who isn't from around here, or who I don't know well, it's always Nottingham.

I really do not see why people get upset over this.

For the millionth time. Notts County are in Nottingham. Nottingham Forest are in Notts.

Depends, usually 'town' - but here in Oxford if I'm going home then I'm going 'back to Nottnum/Notts.'

I tend to be going to town.
It has a Cathedral therefore it is a city.

(I've always seen getting on the bus out of Lady Bay as going up town.)

You can have a cathedral without being a City (though few do), but you cannot be a city without a Royal Charter...

Anyway - town!

Forest are the City team playing at the City Ground, which is not in the City, but in the County.
Notts are the County team playing at the County Ground, which is not in the County as such, it's in the City.

Anyone who dares to call us "Notts" Forest needs a really hard rap on the knuckles with a metal rule, until they learn the folly of their ways.

Let's be right, you can have a royal charter, or - in Direby's case - a sympathy vote from her Madge.

For interest, here is Nottingham's Royal Charter - what makes us a City.
It resides in the Office of the Lord Mayor, in the Council House.
