No more classified football results on 5 live

Anyone bothered?

Some would say that it makes no difference any more as you have apps and websites for scores so it's rare someone would have no clue what has happened at 5pm. Others, particularly the older generation will have this as a staple part of their Saturday evening and perhaps have no other means of knowing the scores I suppose.

Must admit, except for the times in the recent past I have been travelling back from games in the car, I haven't heard the radio sports on a Saturday for many years.

So I'm not bothered. As many others have said, the media opportunities open to people are so many and varied these days that anybody really interested in the scores will already have heard them by 5pm.

The days when we sat down as a family with the scores page of the newspaper open, pen in hand, as the sound of Sports report music died away are long gone. In those days, the honour of being selected as the one to actually write the scores down was treasured.

If the Beeb's argument is that we can get the scores on our mobiles so bin off the classified scores, then they should be aware that we can listen to the banal management post-match "press conferences" on our mobiles too so they can bin them off too.

The stupidity of a programme and station that spends the week bigging up all the football fixtures, and then doesn't tell you what the results are is mindblowing.

A tinge of sadness for me-but with so many different kick-off times/days and technology, inevitable I suppose.
I’m afraid football sold its soul to money long ago.

As a radio user who doesn't watch T.V I'm losing patience with 5 live as it's so far up its own rectum it's scary. The inane waffling and people like Savage and Micah Richards and especially Clinton Morrison would piss the Pope off. And nonsensical questions like "How important was that win last week against Romford under 10s" What bollocks. They think we're all as thick as they are.

I prefer radio as well,Duncan-as it leaves something to the imagination.
However,I wouldn’t listen to 5 live if I were marooned on a desert island with only a radio for company.

Clinton Morrison must have the best agent in the world. How he gets so many gigs is quite frankly unbelievable.

Offers no insight, has terrible banter & can't speak properly (not just his childish accent, he doesn't break up his sentences when he talks and just repeats the same things over and over again). Why again is he employed in several positions in which all those things are a requirement?

Totally agree Rzar, sadly it's not just Morrison, nearly all the pundits have got childish accents or have no insight. Sky football and SSN are getting embarrassing. Last week all I heard on tv was Nutt'n 'um Forest.

It is useful for radio though, especially if you are driving.

And even more especially when you have sat in a football ground with no internet for a few hours.
TalkSPORT have been advertising that they’re now the only place to hear the full classified results.

Having spent large parts of my early adult years sat in a tent in the arse-end of nowhere, Sports Report and the football results kept me sane.

God bless James Alexander Gordon.

I can‘t agree more, after the game on Saturday I just get back to my car by 5 and put the football results on to accompany me on the crawl up Wilford Lane, it won’t be the same now although I doubt the journey will be at 5 on a Saturday afternoon very often this season!

Haven't listened to World Service for years, be a shame if they didn't still have it somewhere in the schedule. I remember when they tried to replace the martial music of the Royal Marines band with some pansy group, but the great British public made them put it back.

"London Calling" was a fixture in my bag.

I listen to World Service very often during the night VP. It puts the news in perspective. Although my heart missed a few beats some years ago when they announced "The death has been announced of the Canadian singer songwriter..............." and my heart stopped. I though oh no not Neil or Joni "Leonard Cohen" sadly and to my shame I was relieved

Ridiculous decision. What about people driving or in the ground with no internet coverage on their phone?

Also, how much out of the day's schedule does reading the football results take? Like five minutes at the most?

I'm sure they could find the time if they ditched plugging some crap BBC One drama I have no interest in watching every five minutes.
