Ok, this is pretty niche and I kind of expect absolutely no-one will get it but as a total Columbo nerd, Savona totally reminds me of the the guy here on the left, who is the victim's nephew in an episode called Murder Under Glass. He's a big tall Italian who speaks no English and also has the same kind of angular face...

I’m not familiar with that character Cavo, but it got me thinking who else does he look like. Had me stumped for a while, then for some reason Frank Spencer popped into my head. Once I’d tested it out a few times I think I’m way off the mark to be honest. I think it’s maybe just one look of confusion he does that doesn’t come out in many photos.
Anyway, might as well share some of the failed efforts I went to try and make it work.

He looks like Eddie Redmayne there

Seems to be settling well

“It’s even more beautiful,” the Nottingham Forest player said. “There’s a completely different style than in Italy and a special, unique atmosphere.”

“It’s difficult to find the words. I’ve experienced unique and indescribable emotions this start to the season. I never would have imagined it.

“I scored two goals, one more important than the other. I’m so happy. I’m experiencing incredible emotions.”

“The thing about the Premier League that impressed me most is the intensity within a match; the teams come at you head-on.

“There’s more space and less tactics than in Serie A. I like it. I immediately felt at ease with both the city and the team. I’d say I’ve settled in very well.”

During the interview, he also spoke about his preferred position.

“I’ve played multiple roles, central defender and also left and right full-back. My natural position, the one I prefer, is right back. I’ve always played that.”

Solid again today, a clean sheet, what more you want?

Random shout out…he’s doing alright I think. Not brilliant, but another more than solid performance for a fairly young and inexperienced player.
He is a lot better than I expected for what we paid & his lack of experience, he is really calm when defending especially when receiving the ball in awkward spots.

I think the club will be more than happy with him, when Aina is either injured or past it we know Savona will be wise enough to step up like he has recently.

There are tiny parts of his game where he shows that inexperience like that Spence tackle but his overall game is good.

When you think back at how this lad was thrown in at the deep end (Arsenal away I think it was) and dealt with the manager merry go round, I think overall he can hold his head up high. There’s been a few nervy moments defensively and been better in some games than others, and I have to admit I’m looking forward to having Ola Aina back in at RB, but this lad gets a standing ovation for having shown some real character and having done more than his bit during what was a very difficult period for the club. He’s faught hard, shown passion and looked particularly good in attacking areas. Not a stand out performer but credit where it’s due.

That Spence tackle came because he didn’t spot the danger quickly enough, and then didn’t have the pace to get himself out of it. He could and probably should have got there before Spence but either thought the ball was going out and / or that Spence couldn’t get there so swiftly.

Stuff to work on for sure, but a lovely cross for what should have been the opener. Strange to consider that Sangare actually should have scored a hat trick!

Only an opinion and not intended to criticise, I thought he was the only weakish link yesterday. I was amazed that spuds didn't put more focus on him post the card. Needs a little more pace to recover - but far from knocking him and I love his enthusiasm for Forest.

I agree Aina is better, but he has proved that he is a excellent squad player and can be relied on. Have been impressed, the flip side is that he has done far better than expected and if he does not get game time when Aina is back can see other clubs trying to poach him
Yes Aina still edges it for me but I probably have them a lot closer than most. I hope he's watching and taking on some of Savona's opportunistic runs forward when the ball is over the over side of the pitch.

I don’t think we can realistically expect Aina to be at his best for a few games. Savona will still have a role to play as Aina builds match fitness.

Spurs did try to target him for the first 25 mins but didn't do it very well.

Their pattern of play was to get the ball into the half space on our right hand side and then switch it out to Savona's with a big diag. They tried it a number of times but the ball either hung too long or he wasn't isolated enough for it to be effective. After the goal went in their heads fell off and it was hard to see what they were trying to achieve anywhere.

Buying a young Italian defender you're giving yourself a good chance that they will have something about them, Italian football is built on defence, it's in their DNA.

Oddly his defending is the weakest part of his game. He's a really good technical player though. I like him.

They probably tried to target him, but as has been the way in with him so far - after he has a dodgy moment he has recovered really well every time.

I just think he gets caught out sometimes with the pace of the game over here compared to Serie A. When he go booked on Sunday, the big diagonal ball to an overlapping fullback isn't something he probably has much experience of. For a young lad still learning he is starting from a very high level.

Yeah- he'll never improve his pace, but his positioning seems to have improved already- shows good football intelligence in adapting to a faster game without the natural attribute to make it easy.
