NFFC Reserves

Its a good way for players to gain fitness, as well as young players to get involved.

Yep, great news. Felt that sometimes last season when players were making comebacks from injuries, that it took them a bit longer to get up to match fitness. Might have been down to the lack of a reserve side, so like I said - good news.

Hopefully this will benefit the young players who come out of the Academy, but last season had nowhere else to go as they couldn't get in the Match-day squad?

Anything that improves our Academy players has got to be worthwhile, as we may turn up a player or two who is eventually good enough for the first team.

It also, as noted, gives injured players somewhere to get their match fitness back.

This is good. At least when all our strikers are fit, all of them can be kept sharp (not sure if Adebola can be sharp but hey ho) and should they come on as a sub, it's not like they haven't played a competitive match in months. Same with all the players really. This is good news :)

Let's be paranoid and also think it means Billy is on his way ...

Sanity returns!!!

Someone like Joe Garner would have benefited immensely by playing regularly in the reserves last season, instead of sitting in the stands or on the bench every week.

Had he been able to play regularly and prove his worth by knocking goals in then he could not have been ignored and that goes for one or two others that's occupied the bench for too long, instead of getting games in.

We send players out on loan to get match-fit or to give them games at places like Brighton or Macclesfield - but who's there to monitor their progress or see them develop?

In my time of watching Forest I have taken in hundreds of reserve games and seen a good few youngsters come through the ranks i.e.

[/FONT] Just a few names there that older supporters might just remember but there are many more that I had pleasure watching in the reserves who didn't quite make it and this is one reason I look forward to this club bringing something back that we can enjoy once again.

I've always preferred having a Reserve side, especially since the last one we had won the league! Bit puzzling that we're in the Central league with the two sheffield clubs and Barnsley. Almost as odd as the split that occurs in Nottingham whenever the League cup happens.

Can only be a good thing, gives the young en's a chance to gain experience and also if we had people doing well in the reserves they can push for the first team,Last season even with our '6 strikers' we only had 2 who were good enough to play at home especially.

The reserves league has Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd and Derby in it.

Who's up for an en masse trip to watch Forest v Derby reserves?

I used to love watching the reserve games.

Apparently Burton are also in the same league. Seems like they've created the league around Forest. "If you're within a 40 mile radius, you're in!"

Fair play though, if they didn't think playing the likes of Rotherham or Acrington etc reserves wasn't useful enough. I imagine it was no more than a kick around and it's certain not as useful as going on loan and playing competitive football.

Credit Billy for puttin' his hands up and admitting he was wrong. Not something you'd associate with the character we know, clearly we don't see the "whole Billy".

Er he didn't say he was wrong though... he said he feels this season's Reserve league is more competive and thus worth playing in.

Well if he thinks the competition wasn't strong enough to warrant a reserve side last season, I would probably agree! Playing closed door friendlies against better teams like Villa was surely more beneficial than playing a Chester City reserve team?

90 mins is 90 mins though, banging in goals for fun against any team breeds confidence.

It's not though, the more challenging and intense it is, the better it is for fitness. Jogging around against a shit team, tapping in easy goals won't help any more than regular training.
