Using the players we have, what do you reckon? What would you like to see?

- smith -
perch - chambers - morgan - bennett
anderson - mcgugan - cohen - tyson
earnshaw - mcgoldrick

gamble (is he still our reserve keeper?)
wilson
moussi
mccleary
adebola
garner

feel free to ridicule and add on...

That side is no better than we had last season. I think I would swap Tyson for McCleary, I expect him to have a big season this year!

aaaaah sweet formation thread. This is more like it!

----------------------Smith------------------------

Perch---Morgan---Chambers------Bennett

Anderson--McGugan---Moussi----Cohen

--------Earnshaw-----Tyson----------------

Something like that would be my team so far. Perhaps Tyson on the wing, Cohen in the middle and Garner/McGoldrick up front.

Glaring holes still yet to fill:

- New central defender
- New propper right back, or play Perch there properly every week (a gamble, but I think he'd be perfect for it)
- New centre midfielder. Still no experienced player to take the game by the scruff of it's neck and run the show.

Still, looks a dam sight better than 48 hours ago. A big horrible bugger to throw on up front if needs be, and after the right players by the sounds of our bids. So far so good.

Those starting line ups are pretty much the team that got us almost relegated,

erm............... These 3 signings are great but it kind of puts things into perspective, we've not changed our defense at all yet, which is worrying! :S

hope we're not banking on Matt Mills coming and then getting burnt too late in the window to get adequate cover, the Rob Jones thing went a bit quiet?? Anyone know anymore on this?

Agree with both of these points. A wise central midfielder who can put his foot on the ball and dictate the pace of the game would be such a great thing to have.
But, who would he play alongside? Cohen or McGugan?

I also think the formation I posted is one we'd have at home... set up for attacking.
Defensively, it looks pretty weak.

Also pretty much the same team that twatted Man City 3-0.

It's also pretty much the same team (bar 2 or 3 players) that saw us get 12 points from out last 6 games.

I think Cohen is above McGugan in the pecking order to be honest, McGugan needs to play well every week before he can consider himself regular. When he does though we'll have a hell of a player on our hands!

Man City were shit mate, Its about consistency over a season, and we got rescued by our last minute loanee's for those last 6 games, its also pretty much the same team that got twatted by burnley and wolves.....

Smith/Camp?
Perch/Gunter? - Morgan/Wilson - Chambers/Mills? - Bennett/Lynch?
Anderson/McCleary - Cohen/McKenna? - McGugan/Moussi - Tyson/McSheffrey?
Earnshaw/Garner - McGoldrick/Blackstock?/Adebola

Smith

Perch Chambers Morgan Bennett

McGugan Moussi

Anderson McGoldrick Tyson

Earnshaw

4-2-3-1 formation

This would be awesome and also allows for flexibility depending on score, substitutions etc

Don't know if you know something about Cohen that we don't, but he is our best player and can't be left out.

This is just my best 11 giving balance and shape to the side........ in my opinion

Cohen can easily replace McGugan in the middle or on the left to replace Tyson.

No wonder my post count..
Gamble was released in April.

But noticing from most of the formations posted is that what we are lacking is strength and depth in Defence and a midfielder to break up play and do the simple things (Moussi is still an un-known with injuries/game time) allowing either McGugan or Cohen freedom to do their stuff.

Sorry - the f--ker went off in my hand. The missing word is .......yet.

If we don't get defensive and midfielder we will struggle. An I wouldn't rely on one of each. I think we'll get McKenna, Camp... Hopefuly Gunter, and some new folks running the in ground food places and bars cuz my Mandarin and Polish is pants.

Rob Jones is still a possibilty. Hibs are hard selling anyone they can at the moment.

You can't have paid much attention last season as we always played worse when Cohen played 'on the left' or McGugan was asked to play as an orthodox central midfielder (eg giving that penno away against Cardiff was it?). McGugan is so much better, and far more effective up the pitch, in a postion like Commons was playing in for the sheepshaggers.

Amazingly, we persisted with playing either McGugan or Cohen out wide, or a 4-3-3 formation (which NEVER worked) when the team always looked more sure defensively with Anderson/McLeary out wide, as they actually stay out wide and track back properly as well.

Please bote this is squad At the moment, and if we bought Gunter i would drag Chambers into the centre, and POSSIBLY put McKenna in Moussi's role, and have the big nasty bugger Adebola to chuck on if we are needing a goal. Also Camp on the bench because Smith is better.

Subs( under D***y's new 7 sub rule)
Camp
Perch/Wilson
Moussi/ mcKenna(depending on form, if mckenna's drops Moose comes in)
McGugan
Adebola
Tyson
Garner

Smith

Gunter Wilson Morgan Bennett

Anderson Moussi Cohen McCleary

McGugan

Tyson

With:

Chambers and a new defender as cover for RB/CB
Lynch/new player for cover on the left side (think Lynch be ok at LM too)
Another winger

As for forwards. We can chop and change to suit whoever we're playing/how the game is going. I'd whack Dele up front against someone like Sheff Utd/Preston and Tyson on against a weak team like Blackpool.

McGugan can be swapped in/out for the second striker.
