Next Seasons Formation - Back to the 1920's?

Having spent this morning annoying my best friend Paul, a Reading fan, over their lack of transfer activity (Currently: OUT: Hannerman & Doyle. IN: No one. Linked with no one. Bids made - zero.) he pointed out 'You can't play all 5 strikers at once.'

Which reminded me of something I saw, in an old Andy Gray tactics book. Therefore I can EXCLUSIVELY reveal out tactics for next season. Billy is going back to the future - the 1920's to be precise, with this little beauty:

Suits us perfectly. Tyson on the left, Eddie on the Right. Big Dele at centre forward and Robbie and Joe playing as inside forwards. :)

Our lack of decent wingers is negated by the 3 half back system.

And the icing on the cake - two full backs that can play centre half!!

Billy Davies: The Tactician of the Future.

As only Sedgred and Anatoli will have seen this system in action, I await their thoughts!

I've got a great idea also, why don't you play the keeper as a striker too, just to bolster things up front a little!

In honesty if you if you pull your 2 inside forwards back a smidge, stretch your half backs a tad wider and get your 2 centre baks up in the holes behind the half backs you will have the game as its been played for many years as an alternative to 442. 5 up, 5 back. As it should be.

No idea about how the tictacs would work, but I'm well up for going back to the 1920s in general.

Although not as long serving on the Forum as Sedge and Anatoli I think I might beat them in terms of age. Born in April 1951 I have been going to games regularly since 1960.
Last season I went to 6 away games [all post Calderwood] and only missed 1 home game against Preston as I was at the Arena to see the Killers! :dance4: :dance3:

If it means we get to go back to artistic team pictures of players posing on fallen trees whilst smoking pipes, then I'm all for it 8)

I was also beginning to think we're gonna field The 'M' Team next season... Just need a new keeper

????
Moloney Morgan Mills
McKenna
Moussi McGugan
McCleary McSheffery
McGoldrick Mearnshaw

Ok, I'm clutching at straws a bit, but it could be possible......

I think also that it was Forest who popularised the 2-3-5 formation from the 20's onwards?

Many teams of the 50s and 60s adopted it - Real Madrid, in the 50s, played the formation frequently in Europe, winning the first five European Cups (for those of you under 20, that's what they used to call the trophy given to the winners of the "Champions League")

On a topical and slightly related note, when we had Michael (Dawson), Jermaine (Jenas) Jackie (Lester) and Marlon (Harewood) in the side, I always secretly wished we could get all the Jackson 5 named in the team.

Unfortunately the nearest I could get to Tito was Titus Bramble.

Sadly no chance of a Randy either...

The only other "Tito" I know of now is that prat at The Sheep.

Decent, young British tennis player emerging? Far right on the rise? Global economy in meltdown? Yep, tonight we're going to party like it's 1929!

Bring on the flappers.

I think that's the system I played at Guilsborough in the 90s... all the cool/popular kids up front, the actual good footballers at the back.

We weren't that good in the 1920s.

This is a mistake.

Go for a 1980's formation.
