Newcastle = The Forest Dream Team that never was...

After the geordies paid handsomely for Perch, he goes to join ex-perennial Forest target Leon Best, it appears that Mike Ashley has given Calderwood control of the pennies up at Netto.co.uk@St-James-Park/index/premiership/2010-2011.html

Does this mean that he will create the Forest dream team he never could at the City Ground? I mean, how long before Newcastle deicide they're interested in a Mr Danns from Crystal Palace, or replacing Steven Taylor with Calderwood's talismanic CB Luke Chambers!?!

I, for one, hope so. Partially to see how such a CC dream team would work together, but mostly as I would enjoy watching Best and Perch travel to ManUre.

My enduring memory of Mr. best in a Newcastle shirt was that, notably, when he played for a under-strength Newcastle against Peterborough United at London Road, he had somehow managed to find cycle shorts, to wear under his kit which perfectly matched the hideous Newcastle away shirt.

I can't remember him doing anything else of note though.

But let's not forget, we're talking about Newcastle United, the 'Twilight Zone' of football teams. The team that thought that the best way to stave off relegation was to bring in a football pundit who had never managed a team before. The same team that managed to lose one of their few decent footballers when Joe Kinnear got his name wrong and made a small joke about it. The team that provided the blueprints for Man Utd's current plan (i.e. sign the best striker in England, and hope he is such a good player he can carry the entire team to title challenges for a few years).

I fully expect Best to be paired up with Eto next season, or something similarly bizarre...
