Don't f***ing want a bowl in the middle of the countryside anyway, f*** that. And on the strength of this summer, f*** the world cup too.

Keep the City Ground.

Get your head out of the soil Earthworm!!! :)

We all love the City Ground but it is time to move on if we get the opportunity. The main stand is a shed, access and parking is far from brilliant and there's little to no space for us to build. I'm just interested in knowing what your clever alternative is because clearly you know something the countless number of planners and architects who have studied the site don't.

Maybe we should tread water for a few more years and let more clubs like Bolton, West Brom and Blackpool overtake us in the pecking order of English football whilst we hark on about glory days nobody under the age of 40 can really remember?

The fact is we deserve a great stadium and the City Ground can not become that unless we divert the flow of the Trent or flatten half the surrounding area. Yes we might have to change a few of our songs, change our pre match bar crawl habits or simply start drinking earlier :), but that is hardly then end of the world is it?

December 3rd this year is I believe the date on which FIFA announce the venue for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Apparently FIFA delegates are visiting the competing countries over the next 2-3 months, before a decision is made. So if it's a "no" to England 2018 in December, it looks like we would be staying put on Trentside!

it takes an hour to get away from Readings ground (one route in/out) so I hope there will be some new roads built around it as well , oh and get used to plastic glasses and cardboard chips, oh and add another £ton to your season ticket we cant let the investors lose out.
KEEP THE CITY GROUND

Sorry my mistake. This is what was actually said..

"With regard to the new stadium, the knowledge I have is confidential at the moment but we should be able to update our supporters by the end of June. Always dangerous to put a date on such an issue!"

Part of an email from Mark Arthur.

Hope you don't mind me posting it Mark! :hi:

Forest's new ground would be paid for completely by the government if we get the world cup, tell me how that's bad?

well, due to the fact that the Labour government bankrupted us all for the next decade, don't be surprised to see the new government pull out of any funding deal.

They have just announced a massive cut in school re-builds, how will it look if they give taxpayers money at a footy stadium:spankarse: Not good...

There are many twists and turns on this one. I fully expect us to stay and redevelop trentside

Maybe Mark hasn't realised June has been and gone, and that's why we've not signed anyone yet.

the latest sports minister was on the radio the other week. there were things about the olympics budget and they were talking about the world cup that was on at the time. they asked about the financial viability of the world cup. he said; "we are using existing stadiums and all the new stadiums that are being built are ones that were planned anyway".

either government spin or we've been sold a myth.

I don't wanna move. If we were to move, I really don't wanna move to Gamston, the Clifton plan sounded better and at least it would actually be in Nottingham not Shire.

But it would actually be further away from the city center than the gamston location is.

the city ground is in the shire anyway?

I think so Rich.

As far as I was aware, Meadow Lane is in the city and the City Ground is in the shire for the same reason as Nottingham has a census population of about 300k as opposed to a proper figure of about 650k.

On a personal level I preferred the Clifton idea too as I believe it would be much better to support logistically with good access to and from the city as well as the motorway. I think a tram service is going out that way too if I remember correctly. Then there is airport access to support our future plans for European domination ;)

From someone over forty, I completely agree.

I don't believe for a second the City Ground can't be updated. MArthur just isn't going to tell you that when there's a stinking great big government grant and a free pass to build on the green belt is he? They can have the planners and architects cook up any story they want to back it up, I don't believe it, sorry.

I live in D*rby for my sins, I often see Pride Park, and its nothing to be proud of. Its a soulless joke of a ground in a f***ing retail park, make no mistake, that's what we'll get.

Pubs near the ground? Forget it. Expect American franchises and outrageous prices, instead of what we've got now which is a huge choice of pubs, shops and take aways, walking distance from town.

Building a new stadium won't make us bigger than Bolton. Getting promoted and beating them will.

I find matchday parking a breeze for Forest, park 20 minutes walk away, and enjoy the walk down the Trent.

The old scare story about getting "left behind" is cobblers, I don't see a proper football ground, in the city (historically, actually classed as such too), with a rich history, and proper pubs, cob shops and chippies strewn around it as in any way "behind" arse holes like Pride Park. They can take their pre match Starbucks and shove it up their arses.

With the exception of the Starbucks but, I tend to agree. West Bridgford has a Caffe Nero, though, which is better than Starbucks, so everyone is a winner.

At present I think a ground move would be suicide. If the club have this on the agenda they need to do more to make it seem like a good idea to fans. The only way fans will start thinking it's a good idea is if tickets start to become hard to come by. If every game is oversubscribed, people will start yearning for development. Until that day, no Forest fan can think that it's a good idea to build a ground we can't fill.

Crucially, Doughty stated that the new ground wouldn't go ahead if there were any material debt to the club. The assumption was that there would be budget for new stadia in the World Cup bid, but given the Olympics is costing so much I can't see the government being took keen on pumping another few billion into it.

Here's a question, and I don't know the answer to it, but how much revenue will the Olympics generate compared to the cost of hosting? Will a profit be made? Same question for the World Cup in South Africa. Was more money pumped into the country through the event than it cost to put on?

I'm sure I remember reading that the Greeks were still paying for the Olympics they had last.

Besides, all it would take is for the project to do a Wembley or Millennium Dome and go rampantly over budget and we'd be f**ked.

To top it off, I can't see there being any celebration of Englishness in a world cup held here, it'd just be another excuse for the FA and the government to beat the internationalist drum. There's better use for our tax money.

Rich

Rice IV
The Greeks aren't particularly financially savvy, though!

I appreciate the tax cost will be high, but then there is the business that it brings into the country. How many visitors, how much will they spend etc etc and then how much of that will be transalted into tax.

I still don't get why the Olympics is costing so much. Why spend £100 or so million of building a lake in London when there's a much better facility here in Nottingham?

Why is the Olympics confined to London instead of being spread around (although I believe the football events are spread around a bit)? Why aren't the facilities built for the Commonwealth games still good enough?

Someone is getting rich on the back of the Olympics, that's for sure.

In terms of actual construction processes - Very possible, even with modern day planning requirements updating the City Ground is a perfectly feasible option.

However - And here's the problem - It would cost a fortune that would come straight out of the clubs finances.

It's a bit like making a choice between completely overhauling, out of your own pocket, that knackered old Ford Escort you've been driving for years or accepting that gift of a brand new DB9.

I don't know about the rest of you but you talk about all this rich history as if we will forget when the CG is retired, to be fair its only the main stand of the ground that is still about from the days of history worth remebering therefore that means roughly 4/5ths of the ground arn't feeling the "history", the ground is a shite hole that needs major work... the only sight I will miss is the trent end walking over trent bridge
