New stadium to go ahead without the WorldCup?

Radio Nottingham this morning stated that official plans have now been put to the council for a new development in Gamston including housing and more importantly for us a new stadium "for Nottingham Forest".

They were keen to stress that nowhere does it mention any World Cup bid. Does this mean we are to go ahead with a new stadium whether we get The World Cup or not? Does this change anyone's opinions on the new stadium idea?

The reality is its the housing that would pay for the stadium not a World Cup so no reason it couldn't go ahead without one however given the opposition not just to the stadium but the housing development itself I don't think it will happen, well not in time for any potential World Cup anyway

Yes mentioned this on new poll thread yesterday. Looks like club see the associated housing scheme to finance new stadium as only way to move forward stadium wise without saddling it with large debt. Development of CG or brownfield sites nearer city centre would do so (since no housing development potential).

Its in the following BBC Nottingham interview with Mark Arthur from Sat (could not get link to radio interview to work directly so have to click ling within article)

To be honest we are not the first club to face this delimma and use development to finance stadium (e.g. Arsenal). Also saw on the news this morning Spurs doing exactly the same and building 400 new houses next to new white hart lane.

To be fair the planners have done a good spin on the development. Things like linking the Grantham canal bacl to the Trent have been campaigned for before but no finance. That part of the A52 will get dualled at some stage in the future. If they protect Bassingfield and Tollerton boundaries and have the proposed park/woodland would minimalise the impact.

Was sad enough to actually read the proposal linked above and was thinking the same myself! Don't live a million miles away from proposed site and actually like the plans when you see the overall concept. Reckon it would improve the area since most of the proposed site although 'green' is currently pretty non descript fields and hardly a place of beauty anyway.

Try telling that the Kay Cutts...she was on the radio last night explaining that they are pulling their support for yet another project...some library in West Bridgford that the council tax payer has already spent £500,000 on.
Add to that she opposes the tram extension.

This women is pissing of a hell of a lot of people

Yes she mad as a hatter and appears to be vetoing everything in Nottingham. Think that was what Mark Arthur was referring to in interview link i posted earlier'there will be a change in the political landscape'. She has pissed so many people off its probably guarenteed massive turn out at next election and her reign will be short lived and county's councils objection will be reversed.

What they could do with is add in a tram line extension from town/station through West Bridgford to Gamston via the proposed park and ride site (and a new ground stop) then on to Cotgrave or via Tollerton to Keyworth

From her point of view, she's probably pulling the plug on lots of Labour scheme's that don't make any sense. You'd think she's got plans to spend the money on other things she thinks are better?

Like it or lump it we will have to get a new stadium sooner or later so it makes sense to have these plans in place, with or without the world cup.

Well I certainly won't be voting for her in any election. All I have seen from her so far is blocking any proposal going.

Her alternative to the tram is more buses..not really very forward thinking is it?

Her alternative to the leisure centre she has opposed....she isn't sure yet

not necessarily, if no Tram and no library means shes keeps to her promise of no council tax rise for the residents of Nottinghamshire this year I would imagine many will be singing her praises

Shes also responsible for having a memorial to the child migrant workers removed because they thought it wasnt positive enough, and she is also now removing the memorial to those from notts who died during the spanish civil war.

She got into power by promising to cancel the tram extension, which is going ahead anyway- and they never really had the power to stop it.

Shes making this county into a joke :(

Someone should take the opportunity to design a ground that actually gives the home crowd a significant advantage in terms of ability to generate atmosphere through density of crowd in a particular area and factoring in acoustics.

That's perhaps an extreme idea lol

I was thinking more of make the away end shallow in terms of row depth, and wider, without an overhanging roof under which noise can reverberate to good effect.

I'm sure somebody more architecturally minded could come up with something that suits.

Rather than where we are now, which is basically custom designed for the away fans to be able to make a right racket, and most areas of the home support chant off into the open air.
