The whole subject of a new stadium has been handled poorly since it was first mooted.
For the project to be a success I would have thought that all parties concerned would have sat down, agreed a plan and then told the general public what the plan was. Instead, we get the bickering in the media between the councils and Forest, talk of numerous different sites, different council flavours having different opinions, and there doesnt appear to be any concern for anyone else outside of the bickering stakeholders ivory towers.
I would like to know:
- What consideration did they all give the people of Clifton, Holme Pierrepont and now Gamston when they announced they are potential sites for new Forest grounds.
- What consideration do they give to the people who live around and have businesses around the City Ground when they make the flippant comment "to extend the City Ground would involve knocking down 30 odd houses and two boat clubs"
None what so ever, many peoples houses, lives and livlihoods are affected and jeopardised by these new stadium announcements.
I would also like to know who is paying for this £100m stadium??? Are Forest going to put themselves in massive debt just like the likes of d***y, lestah, Southampton, Darlington (and probably a few more) who all went down the route of new staia and ended up in administration. Add to this list Arsenal, whose financial future is dependant on regular top 4 finishes and who appear to have been in a slow decline on the pitch since moving to the Emirates and could perhaps finish outside the top 4 this season!
And who will own the new ground? Will we be tenants just like we are now?
Will we have to (or be forced to) share the ground with Notts County?
And why does a team who have never averaged over 30,000 a match since it was 2 bob to get in, require a 38,000 stadium?
There are too many unanswered questions which simply lead me on to my final point......
"Oh mist rolling in from the Trent, my desire, is always to be here, oh City Ground"
