New Stadium Shambles

The whole subject of a new stadium has been handled poorly since it was first mooted.

For the project to be a success I would have thought that all parties concerned would have sat down, agreed a plan and then told the general public what the plan was. Instead, we get the bickering in the media between the councils and Forest, talk of numerous different sites, different council flavours having different opinions, and there doesnt appear to be any concern for anyone else outside of the bickering stakeholders ivory towers.

I would like to know:
- What consideration did they all give the people of Clifton, Holme Pierrepont and now Gamston when they announced they are potential sites for new Forest grounds.
- What consideration do they give to the people who live around and have businesses around the City Ground when they make the flippant comment "to extend the City Ground would involve knocking down 30 odd houses and two boat clubs"

None what so ever, many peoples houses, lives and livlihoods are affected and jeopardised by these new stadium announcements.

I would also like to know who is paying for this £100m stadium??? Are Forest going to put themselves in massive debt just like the likes of d***y, lestah, Southampton, Darlington (and probably a few more) who all went down the route of new staia and ended up in administration. Add to this list Arsenal, whose financial future is dependant on regular top 4 finishes and who appear to have been in a slow decline on the pitch since moving to the Emirates and could perhaps finish outside the top 4 this season!

And who will own the new ground? Will we be tenants just like we are now?
Will we have to (or be forced to) share the ground with Notts County?
And why does a team who have never averaged over 30,000 a match since it was 2 bob to get in, require a 38,000 stadium?

There are too many unanswered questions which simply lead me on to my final point......

Anyone else see the irony of Forest pumping Mull of Kintyre over the tannoy, when they are trying to get us moved to Gamston?

MArthur probably just thinks we all like Paul McCartney, he'll change it to "Wonderful Christmas Time" in a few months and think he's "down with the kids" at Forest.

If Dadford has his way it will be more like YMCA rather than Mull of Kintyre lol lol

Agree it could have been handled much better. Since there is obviously a split in views on stay vs go, I now think the best thing they can do to try and win supporters over is:

a) Help people better understand the limitations of City Ground site. Although making public the architects review has definately helped, why not make public the financial impact of staying and developing the city ground (with no world cup) vs moving (with world cup).

ND has already stated that he will not burden the club with debt, so presumably they have some rough figures. Let people know roughly what share of the £100m is planned to be financed by club, land sale, council, developer/retailers, FA/World Cup Committee etc.

b) If we are going to move, (and they appear to be quite a way down this decision process) its not too late for them to invite supporter groups to have input into stadium . This will help ensure its up there with the better league new builds such as City of Manchester and Emirates. Things like design (e.g. stands vs bowl), naming vs not, where to put away fans, are all important decisions supporters should be involved in.

These 2 things could help the club get more supporters on-side.

This Topic goes some way to explaining where we stand on the new stadium plans.

There's still a lot to be done before this can actually go ahead, and Marthur's comments from that article make me feel a bit more positive that we, the fans, will have a fairly large say in all this, should it go ahead.

BALLS TO THE BID!

if we get a new ground anyway which is awful idea we will only get 2 shitty group matches japan v ghana for example!
yet another example of the club not listening to what the fans want!

Are you sure about that? Even if it's just group games, that would be the World Cup...

I went to all the Euro 96 games at the City Ground, even when Croatia (I think it was) put out their reserve side!

Either way, I'd still rather be at a (refurbished) City Ground.

In Euro 96 i remember Luis Figo celebrating in front of the Trent End after he scored

Yet another example of people such as yourself not looking at the facts and just spouting some random bullshit to suit your argument.

Aren't all the matches codified and allocated to the various stadiums before the teams are even drawn out of the hat? Therefore you could literally end up with anyone playing out of Nottingham, bar England whom I sure they would base in London.

Yep, the whole 'we'll only host the shit teams' point is rubbish.

Look at the smallest 3 grounds in Germany 2006; Nuremberg, Kaiserslautern and Leipzig. All 3 of them hosted a knock out game and all of them hosted 'major' teams in the groups.

England, the best supported side (bar the hosts) played at the smallest venue, Nuremberg as did Portugal v Holland in the 1st KO round. Kaiserslautern hosted Italy and Spain in the groups and then Italy v Aus in the KO round. Leipzig hosted Holland, Spain and France in the groups and then the game of the tournament (Argentina v Mexico) in the 1st KO round.

All this argument amongst ourselves is seemingly now futile. It seems that the World Cup bid will be withdrawn later today.
FOR FOREST - THIS WASN'T ABOUT THE WORLD CUP!!!!!!!!
It was about funding a state of the art stadium without putting ourselves into impossible debt. Sure, there would have been a World Cup match or three, with all the benefits that would have brought to the City, BUT we would have been left with a great stadium which would have matched our ambitions. We could build a large stadium at the City Ground; the original architects drawings show a new 'bowl' with the TE left intact. The problem would be the issue of light for the houses nearby, so we would have to buy up loads of homes and probably businesses. A £100,000,000 stadium would not have been just some soul-less bowl a la Derby or Leicester but never mind, let's enjoy those quirky areas of our ground we all love so much, and are so out of date.

I don't live near West Bridgford, so have no comment on the local environmental/nuisance issues. On balance, though, I'm in favour of a new stadium so long as it doesn't affect the funds available to maintain and strengthen the team and club infrastructure.

We all love the CG but times move on. I was at Hillsborough on Saturday and although it was probably considered one of the top stadia in its day (no references to 1989 please), it is clearly a bit of a hole nowadays. You could barely move in the concourses at half time, the refreshments were appalling and almost impossible to get, no beer and to top it all there was a 12" wide stanchion right in the middle of my view towards the far goal. From last season, QPR, Blunts and Palace were similar, but Reading and Soton were grand imo. The point I'm making is that the CG is ok for now, but it won't be for much longer and the experts seem to be saying that it can't be redeveloped. Sometimes you can't make do and mend, you have to buy new.

And anyway, new stadia don't have to be soulless. Reading and Soton seemed ok to me, the Millennium Stadium has a good reputation tho and the new Wembley is fine. It's a huge political football, for the council and the fans, but I think we should get right behind it.

When you hire "experts" to prove the point you want to make that's what they do, if we wanted to redevelop the CG I'm sure there would be "experts" who would say it can be done.

For me the ideal solution would be to replace the Main Stand with someting of a similar size to the Brian Clough Stand and to get rid of the kink in the top of the Upper Bridgford.

Looking at the google earth there's physically the room but that doesn't take into account the impact it would have on the surrounding houses in terms of view and light blocking.

The City Ground isn't as bad as people make out. The away end at Pride Park for example is nothing special in terms of facilities etc compared to anywhere in the City Ground except the Main Stand.

In fact a lot of away fans rate a trip to us as one of the best in the league. We might not have the best tea & sandwiches in the country but we do have the best location.

If you stand on Trent bridge near the burger man before a match you will often see away fans taking pictures of the Trent End. Never felt the urge to photograph any away ground I've been to on some crappy industrial estate.
