New Stadium!!! It Just Gets Better.

Nottingham Forest aim to create a 'Wembley for women' with new stadium. :eek:mfg:

• New ground intended to be one of 2018 World Cup venues
• Club aim for 45,000 capacity home in Gamston

Creating a 'Wembley for women' is one of Nottingham Forest's key aims for the new stadium they are planning if England is chosen to stage the 2018 World Cup and Nottingham is selected as one of the 12 host cities.

The 45,000 capacity stadium would be built in Gamston, a mile from Forest's current City Ground and where the club have already proved successful in staging FA Women's Cup finals.

Promotional work by Forest and the city council in 2007 helped to almost double the previous record attendance for the final, and a year later they broke the record again with a crowd of 24,582.

Forest's chief executive Mark Arthur said: "We would want the new stadium to have a lasting legacy, and a strong part of that would be the hosting of major fixtures in the women's game. Wembley is probably too big for women's football so we would aim to set ourselves up as the Wembley for women.

We would offer to host all of England's home games and the FA Cup final every year. If given that mandate, I believe our new stadium could become as important to the women's game as Wembley is to the men's."

Fixture constraints meant that Forest were unable to hold last season's FA Cup final at the City Ground, but they have requested do so in the current campaign while also hoping that their women's team will become part of the Super League that the FA are aiming to start in 2011.

Forest today missed the chance to go to the top of the Premier League, a 3-1 defeat by Watford sending the Hornets joint top with Millwall Lionesses, who were held to a goalless draw by Birmingham.

In the day's only other game, Leeds won 2-0 against Doncaster.

Nothing mate - just thought it would be better planned once we had a new home or a super duper stadium.

But typical of Marthur & the club - everything is done arse upards.

They'll be asking us to look at plans next and pick our new seats or they might even give us a list of venues then let the fans vote.

Aside from the fact that our stadium would be regarded as 'a girls ground', is it not the case that we achieved large attendances in the Women's FA cup finals by 'doing a Derby' and practically giving the tickets away? I seem to recall you could get tickets for about £1 each when bought in advance.

I don't think women's football is anywhere near the stage in this country where they could sell 45000 full price tickets.

Erm.

Actually it's Mark Arthur - so the next thing will be getting us to buy tickets and pay for pies and drinks.

Only after that will they think about then the plans.

I did say say "But typical of Marthur & the club" because had I just said Marthur I know there would have been some on here that would have come down on me like a ton of bricks.

I'm glad you've had the balls to say it - Guess you're braver than me!!

I saw one at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon and I wasn't impressed.

I think where I've highlighted below might be a clue.

Am I the only one that can see why the Club, or Mark Arthur has decided to release intentions to make it the big stage for womens football. This will surely only enhance our campaign to be involved in the world cup, whilst it will have nothing directly to do with it if it came down to us and say Derby/Leicester/Sheff Wed or any teams similar to us (I have no idea which cities are running alongisde us btw) surely the fact that we are the only club that intends to aid the FA with promoting womens football in a state of the art stadium would help us secure the bid.

I don't think FIFA in their efforts whilst looking for suitable venues for the 2018 WC will be remotely intersted in us building a stadium that will host the womens FA Cup.

I have never lived near Nottingham so i accept i don't always understand public feeling but from what i can see the club appear to be really pushing to make us something to be proud of again. I have a season ticket but don't have that feeling of love for the city ground like many others. Times move on and i would like to see Forest in a brand new bespoke, good looking new stadium with surroundings to match. I think the club is trying to do this and i'm behind it fully. Ideally we would be in the Premier League but at the moment i don't really care - i like the realness of league football. We all have to give and take and no one can have everything.

I also don't particularly care about having the world cup in Nottingham either but i think that is going to be a prerequisite for a move so we need to win the bid in my eyes. The womens game is something different altogether though. I would like us to be the home of the womens game wherever we play because it will eventually be big news and if Forest are in the subconscience whenever it is spoken about it can only be a good thing. If people can't get past the womens Wembley tag then they need to get a little perspective!

In summary:
Premier league - don't care
World Cup - don't care
New Stadium - only if it is forward looking but keeps traditional ethics
Womens footy - definitely (even if we don't get a new ground)

I suspect you are wrong. One of their key tests is 'legacy' and such an 'inclusive' gesture would be well considered.

Whether its right or not is entirely another issue.

Plus, we've already got one!

The City Ground has hosted this match for the last three years at least.

Great.. I hate womens football.

It's slow, dull and the women in the ground all wait for each other to cheer because they don't know when they are meant too.

that's right, it went to pride park for a reason i don't recall

We had a league game about 24 hours before, and FA required 48-ish hours clear, or something very similar.

Since the record attendance is 24,000 for one of those games, clearly a 55,000 seater will be highly appropriate...........

Just as well we always get more than 24,000 for all of our home games then.

Was that what you were thinking too?

Ken Clarke is in the Post today (he's a Forest fan apparently and was at the Blackpool game). He's got reservations about building on green belt too.

I imagine as a good old Tory he'd side with the County Council.

I think anything which promotes the club in a positive light and generates extra income can only benefit the club longterm.
Wheather that's ladies football or world cup fixtures.
I dont have a problem with a new stadium either as long as it does not leave the club massively in debt.
Read alot of posts talking about a souless ground but for me its upto the fans to generate an atmosphere and the city
ground has never been the same since the old Trent end came down.
A good design in the right place i'd be well up for it.
