New Stadium (AGAIN)

Council Leader John Collins was on Radio Nottingham his morning saying that Nottingham are officially bidding for the World Cup and that various options for stadiums are being looked at including developing the City Ground into a World Cup venue.

He was asked by the presenter why this had changed as everyone had stated before that developing the City Ground was not an option and his response was that the club and various other people have ben working hard and to me it sounded like they have found a way to do it.

Not a lot else was revealed regarding the other possible locations

I pray they re-develop the CG. I have so many fond memories of that place. It's still the house of Clough and Taylor.

Long may their spirits rest easy there.

I agree. If we could extend the corner of the Bridgford end and obviously demolish the main stand and rebuild, I reckon we could be looking at a 40,000 seater stadium anyway.

Another reason I wouldn't want us to move is the fact that the surroundings round the ground are spot on. There is obviously the embankment, but you've got everything within walking distance - shops, banks, pubs, restaurants, takeaway and the train station!

fantastic news

please let this happen

turn the main stand into a world class stand and rename it the 'peter taylor stand', job done.

Would need more than that in my opinion. The Clough stand and the Bridgford end are looking very tatty inside and out. Significant money would have to be spent on both to bring The City Ground up to a world class standard venue

If they do re-develop the CG which I think would favour everyone, I imagine the easiest option will be for us to move out for a season to let the building works take place. I imagine we'll share Counties ground for that period.

Whatever happens that would be good news if it comes off....

Not sure about the naming. Surely the Main Stand is the `main` stand. Would this be putting greater emphasis on PT and BC, or would it be a tremendous gesture for the great man?

In order for it to be a World Cup Venue doesn't if have to be up to 5 Star UEFA/FIFA standard??? I can't imagine the City Ground being anywhere near that... it that's the case the whole stadium will need redeveloping.

New stadium or an extension would be great.

Yep, that's my feelings too and that's why it is more likely that we see a new stadium and as long as we get something special i'm all for it

And the sad thing is to, the Walkers Stadium and Pride Park have already been mentioned as possible venues......along with Villa Park.

I can see them probably going with one maybe two venues in the midlands. There is a lot of competion so if we got a new stadium (most likely scenario) it would have to be something special.

I couldnt agree more. I want that place to be apart of my life forever, not an ikea flat pack job.

Interestingly did anyone hear the workmen behind in the ND interview, I wonder what their doing!

They are working on refurbishing the hospitality suites and Directors Lounge, plus other bits of close season maintenance.

While watching the interview, I was more interested in if they were painting that grey wall white! No evidence of that in the video, but it would look much better if they did! :)

I love the CG and would always favour it's redevelopment over a meccano stadium.

However, if we're serious about (promotion) the world cup bid then there's much more to it than simply knocking down the main stand and building a bigger one in its place.

Specifically, building a say 15,000 tiered stand - which is what's required to bring it up to the 40,000 capacity, would put a massive strain on congestion outside before and after the game and be very difficult in terms of escape route safety. Essential work would have to be done, including getting rid of the club shop and surrounding buildings, as well as potentially some houses around the area.

The same problem exists at the moment outside the Trent end - it's a bloody nightmare trying to get out. Unfortunately the problem cant be fixed as easily as knocking some old buildings down and expanding. Indeed the only option I can think of is to build a bridge over the trent and knock down Meadow Lane and replace that area with a designated public gathering space with large screen TV etc.

I'm sure there are loads more concerns too.
  • Exits from the Brian Clough are notoriously bad.
  • The seats in lower childline corner with zero view due to wall.
  • Every stand both in and out would need sprucing up to make it look modern etc etc

Basically, it'd probably be cheaper and easier to build a new stadium elsewhere. I only hope we don't win the bid.

The congestion would be bad if 40,000 people showed up every week ...

There are plans to make more use of park and ride - if that is done properly then there is an opportunity to spread the fans out a fair bit at the end of the match.

There was also a plan for a footbridge over the trent - something to do with a project involving one of Forest's latest board members / directors who is looking at developing the other side of the Trent.

There was a picture posted by Jimbo (last year) taken by his boss from the top of new Trent Bridge floodlights - that showed that there is actually plenty of room for expansion using the existing land.

It's all possible ...

Hmm on the other side of the river is that coach company so perhaps if we got them to move somehow ( make it worth while for them ) then with planning permission (which I'm sure the council would agree to) we could build a wide footbridge across. Then if forest have anything about them could build perhaps a bar / restaurant in the land.
