Don't ya worry. You have plenty of company here. I'm usually browsing the forum at 4am (usually a tad worse for wear) so insomniacs are most welcome !

Insomniac. Could someone suggest the cure?

It depends on what is causing your insomnia - if you're going through a bereavement process then your doctor will prescribe you something short term (recognising that its only a temporary thing). If, however, you're suffering from long term insomnia then your doctor will recommend counselling instead.

I've had insomnia myself and the worst bit is when you make yourself anxious because you can't sleep, and this anxiety cycle keeps you awake even more. The answer to this is to break the cycle. You need to come up with an action plan, in case you stay up all night. If you normally drive to work then come up with an alternative e.g. take the bus instead, work from home or take holiday/sickness. If you can get yourself to the point of saying, "well, if I don't sleep - it doesn't matter because I can do this," then you're removing a source of anxiety - which paradoxically will mean you're more likely to sleep, and you're less likely to have to engage in your action plan.

In my previous job, I spoke to my boss about this and he accepted the situation. Knowing I could work from home in the worse case scenario, the problem disappeared - and not once did I ever have to do this through insomnia.

Sleeping tablets are not a good idea unless its for a short term thing (e.g. bereavement). Apart from the addictive properties of sleeping tablets, your body builds up a resistance to them.

One thing I also took myself was Kalms sleep tablets. These you can purchase over the counter and they're a herbal remedy. Don't take these all the time though.
