New Brian Clough documentary - 18th July on BBC 2

From what I can see, nobody appears to have mentioned this yet so I thought people might like to know that a new hour-long documentary about Old Big 'Ead will be broadcast on 18th July at 10.30pm on BBC Two after their 9.00pm premiere of 'The Damned United'.

It could be the doco's that appear on the Damned United DVD perhaps ?

I am currently reading "Provided you don't kiss me: 20 Years with Brian Clough"

A fantastic book - I took it on holiday in May and ended up reading it twice!
 
if its any good any chance someone could rip it to a DVD and send it out to me? ;)
 
Don't trust Flagman DVDs!

Last time he made me a Clough one it got about 10 minutes in a froze! I expected better!

From what I've read, it's a brand new documentary titled 'Brian Clough: The Greatest Manager England Never Had?'.

On your other point, I bet you're finding it a genuine struggle to put Duncan Hamilton's book down - it's a real masterpiece.

... spot on - loved it !! Had an early start this morning ... didn't stop me from staying up until 1am to finish it !!! lol
 
looks quiety good, seems to focus on things that havn't already been shown thousands of times, well most parts anyway.
 
Having just watched the dammed utd and now this you forget how great he was,And the way king billy has started with us its like Clough all over again of course he is nowhere near him at the mo but you have to start somewhere !
 
It makes me happy knowing that I've personally seen the likes of Platt, Kinnear, Dadi and Powell but we've had the likes of Brian Clough.

At the end of the day, Nottingham Forest will be forever linked with Brian Clough. Who really cares about Platt and the rest of those fools.
 
is it wrong that i was getting a lump in my throat again towards the end of this documentary I am so glad I was old enough to have stood in the trent end, to have seen forest play (not at there best) but during the period that saw back to back league cups fa cup final and simod and zenith data cups.

clough was a bloody genius and if this club never becomes great again no one can ever take the good old days away from us, my only regret is I wasnt born 10 years earlier and could of seen us be truely great
 
Glad to see it wasn't epically Derby sided like that ITV one was.

I was more trying to make the point that I'm proud of our club even though I've only seen Forest teams since Platt.

Nope, I was sat here with the missus - bloody mindedly watching it with me - willing her to go upstairs so I could have a little cry lol :weep: Fortunately she did.

Always gets to me, seeing how the road ended for Clough at Forest.

You're not the only one..

It makes me smile in a way, that Brian Clough is the only person, living or dead, that can reduce me to a blubbering wreck just by watching interviews with. Makes me feel privileged to even be associated with the club...
 
I struggled through the book, thought it was dreadful, one of those I've started to so I must finish type things, in fact I thought the book absolute garbage.........the film, first time I have seen it and to be honest, like the book, I did not enjoy it, but I suppose and accept Lids was a dark period of his life, even though the period shaped his destinty, for ever interwoven with Forest's.

Fantatsic memories though revived on the following documentary, those of my vintage will remember all just like it happened last week.

For younger supporters though, success is relevant and believe me I cheered promotiion from the wilderness of the third division just as enthusiastically as any success I have been fortunate to see the team achieve. The scenes of the massed army of trickies at Coventry as Forest clinched the title made me go cold...............that was proof we had arrived.
 
Proud to say I gave them both a watch last night, I seriously think though the film should have finished on a high with him signing for Forest. I enjoyed the documentary though :)
 
i loved the book but im too young to know the man, essentially. film is pale comparison to the book, but that's just my point of view. i liked the tantrums and erratic behaviour. but this is about the documentary so:

the clough/taylor stuff is horrible. not a nice split at all.

but hey, i was thinking last night all these other "great" managers. yeah ferguson has done the business with man utd, but it's taken him 20 years to win two european cups with the biggest club on the planet. bill shankly took liverpool from the bottom of the second division to the top of the first, but clough did it twice and picked up two european cups to boot. the "greatest" managers only ever did it with the "great" clubs. clough was the real hero. he made dreams come true.

(realise i'm preaching to the converted here)
