Neco Shay Williams of WALES

I must have missed all that because to me we've looked about as threatening so far as the kitten I got last week.

In fairness to Ola he has had Ndoye in front of him too...
This forum could use some kitten photos TBF.

Neco isn't a bad name either. Or Forest. :ROFLMAO:

More threat there for sure 🤣 🤣

I get that your role here is to find the negative in everything, but we're clearly slowly adapting to a new system of play, so some patience is required. You said that having a right-footer at LWB was having a negative impact on the flow and balance of our attacks, but my point was that a lot of our (admittedly limited) goal threat (and actual goals) have come from Neco at LWB. Which suggests that that is not a limiting factor in our relative lack of chance creation so far.

Not sure it's particularly negative to say we lack threat at the moment, or that we could do with the balance a left-footer would bring there.

He needs putting on the bench when we are looking to be more attacking at home. I am mentioning Williams a lot more at the moment because hes like a sacred cow that cant be spoken about. Ndoye is easy to have a go at we all agree hes been the worst player for us but that is masking how poor Williams is when we need him to attack. Liverpool and Villa away its perfect cause he is a defensive wing back. Whereas Cov and Leeds at home we needed him badly. The deep crosses we lamented under Dyche is Williams all over.

Benching Neco as he's poor?

That's one out of left field.

You have to say, as ideas go, it’s right up there with Abraham Lincoln’s “Hey honey I’m a bit bored tonight, how about we visit the theatre?”

Our Summer recruitment in the WB position was baffling. To repeat, and at the risk of becoming extremely boring….Glasner has NEVER used wing backs on the side of their non dominant foot….because his system relies on the WB overlapping / under lapping and getting the ball into the middle. The deployment of Williams at LWB is the first example I can find of Glasner “breaking” his preferred model in this way.
So we go through close season with two, strong, right footed RBs. And on the other side, a solitary left footed LB/LWB that’s had limited minutes with us and, on who the strength of OGs first few team selections, is perhaps not rated all that highly. Despite all of this, we go and spend >£20m on another right footed FB/RWB. It makes no sense to me at all. We should have been buying a left footed LWB either instead of Munoz OR in addition to Munoz with Williams or Aina being sold. This is not a reflection on either Williams or Aina by the way. It’s merely a decision that would have been driven by the reality of our situation and the need to balance the squad.

It's weird and for me just doesn't suit Williams' game at all. It slows our attacks down and makes us extremely predictable.

Any opposition manager worth his salt knows that we're going to attack down the right if we possibly can and if we do work it down the left Williams is going to be coming inside every time.

Agreed, its bizarre how a manager who turned left footed Filip Kostic into one of the best performing wing backs in Europe came to Forest and thought we need more right footed wing backs. I understand that Kostic at Frankfurt was the more offensive side, at Palace Ty Mitchell was the more defensive flank to balance out the attacking Munoz for Palace.

Neco is slowing everything down by needing to cut back on his right foot. We saw it in pre-season and if anything he is regressing with every league game to the point were i sighed everytime the ball went out to him on Saturday, balls that needed to be fizzed in first time are controlled, touched inside and floated into the unsurprising defence who have prepared all week for central and back post floated crosses.

I actually think Ola would be a sharper and more varied dynamic attacking threat down the left instead of Neco, Ola trusts his left foot and has genuine pace and flair. I'd love if Pete Blackburn would ask Glasner about this topic in one of the questions he gets for Forest Focus at Glasners next press conference.

The worst aspect of this is that we are now questioning the value in the team of a guy who has been in our top 3 performers for the last 3 years. How have we got to this? It's totally unsatisfactory and it could have been easily avoided.

It's a strange situation as we're so wedded to the system it comes at the expense of maximising some of our best players.

I suppose with new managers there are always winners and losers and sometimes ones that are more unexpected (McAtee).

I genuinely think Neco would do a better job at AM than Ndoye though so perhaps we can retrain him and get a proper LWB in...

right now I’ll take anyone above Ndoye.
But mainly:

CHO

It feels a bit grim that we have turned our backs on Callum for the sake of a formation.
But gut says he can’t get through the workload Glasner wants.

Sounds like a cracking set piece as well from the young man!

And it seems Norway are down to ten men, as well as being a goal down (from that set piece, young Williams scored!)

Erling who?

Put the lad on free kicks from the next game onwards - it's long overdue!
Tbf we did for a while and he was useless. But I think that was a while ago...
