Aston Villa spent £150m when they were promoted in 2019 (and they had a far better starting position thanHopefully once we get these four (Dennis, Maupay, Freuler and Kouyate) through the door, we get Malinovskyi and call it a day. I'd be lying if I said that I am not getting a bit worried about how much we are spending.
Forest)-our squad was woefully inadequate for Premier League football after the loans returned.
I’m not too worried at this stage about overspending-if the worst happens, our 2 huge earners (Lingard and
Henderson are leaving) plus there are bound to be 2 or 3 success stories (either from our promoted side
or the new signings) that will be sold be big bucks to balance the books. Also, the parachute payments
should help us be competitive in the Championship.
If we want to be a Premier League club then we need a squad to match-I’m reasonably confident that the
board will have a spending ceiling which won’t jeopardise the future of the club.
I just hope SC can weld the squad (when they all arrive) together quickly enough to allow us survive and
eventually flourish in the top flight after so many years away.
