Name and Shame the Certain players

In his after match interview Billy Davies made the point of certain players (more than 1 could be up to 6 !!) in the team didnt compete any ideas who he is pointing the finger at. I like this
fighting talk lets hope he give the guilty ones a good kick up the backside

It would not be professional for Davies to name the aforementioned players.

I am sure they know who they are and I'm sure we can guess.

I'm going to take a guess at Lewis, Wilson and McCleary. Unfortunately due to owning a mac and being at university where they have blocked any media player downloads i couldnt listen to the game today, but Gareth was taken off at half time wasnt he? Unless he was injured, this is usually Billy and Ned's way of saying "you've been crap, get off".

Wilson usually allows the game to get the better of him and Lewis has been lackluster of late. Let's hope the players respond well to this and I'm sure they will continue to get the right amount of bollockings and praise in the next couple of days.

I don't think demeaning players in public is the way to go unless they truly deserve it and if he's kicking them out the club anyway.

All of whom apart from Perch were doubts this morning. Coincidence? Or do these 4 show the true desire to perform week in week out?

I can see these 2 as perhaps moving towards a good relationship with Davis what with Breckin being taken off the tranfer list and being told he is important to the club by Davies and with Perch being made capitian must be a huge confidense boost.

Davies also seems to be getting quite a lot out of Tyson and Earnshaw dispite some saying that Davies may have a problem with the latter, which I think is a testement to both their attitudes.

I'm certian Davis will keep us in this division and will be a great manager for this football club over the coming seasons...we just need him to get some players in, which it looks like he is trying to do with bids for Adebola and the Hibs center back, both of whom I hope we get because I think they have something to offer this club.

I would not he surprised if McGugan was one. He had a poor game. I think he has great talent but he doesn't work hard enough to get the ball back. Headers in particular, he just doesn't compete in the air not even a jump!!!

Others I would say were not bar.

The midfield overall had a bad day. However, Cardiff are a top side and I went into the game fearing the worst.

Midfield overall had a bad day ? the midfield had a bad day for like the past 3-4 games. Get Cohen in the middle , because he at least will compete for the ball. McGugan needs to be dropped now , he's been strolling around the field like a disney princess waiting for his prince charming for the past couple of games. When at the beginning of the season when he looked poor , people were saying oh , he's not yet adapted to this division , oh he's carrying an injury but now , what's his excuse ?! McGugan is a luxury player , not suited for a relegation fight since he doesn't seemed to want to compete and do all the necessary nitty gritty stuffs. Get someone in the side who will fight for the ball.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Cohen playing in the midfield yesterday?

Also, you suggest dropping McGugan. Who would you have replaced him with?

Cohen was playing on the left , wasn't he ? Get him in the middle.

Thornhill , Cohen , even academy lads like Byrne should be given a chance as they would have a point to prove. McGugan of late have mainly been a waste of space , oh he can produce a few tricks here and there but it's not enough if he isn't going to challenge or track back.
McGugan needs a spell on the bench , bring him on as a 2nd half sub if needed be.

Definitely. He needs to work for his place and at the moment he doesn't. No one should think they are automatically starting. If it is true we are going for McSheffery and Adebola, how's this for a midfield-striker combo:

McSheffery - Perch - Cohen - Tyson

-------Adebola - Earnshaw ---------

Perch and Cohen give their all week in, week out and until McGugan shows he is willing to do that, start him on the bench. At least then there is the option of bringing him on as an attacking mid, again giving us more options?

Certainly we started with Thornhill on the left and then part way through the first half him and McCleary swapped.

about time we had a manager that sends the half time tea cups flying ... and knows where we go wrong at times. CC would have told the public "we have learned from this defeat etc etc "
Get in there Billy and sort em out there is a lot of pride at stake wednesday and a big earner v Man Ure ££££

At the moment, Perch and Cohen would look to be our best combination in the centre of midfield.

Much as I like Lewis, he just hasn't looked bothered with some aspects of the game in the last few matches, he doesn't want to tackle-back that much, for example. I think with injuries/suspensions for Wednesday, we might Lewis playing off of Nathan Tyson against Derby, but who knows?

We're also missing Guy Moussi, who would at least offer something different in the centre!

The past 3 or 4 games we have won??? The midfield have created the goals or certainly the majority of them. McGugan does need to get stuck in more he has been needing to do that for a while. Problem is there is no one to replace him with that has the same creative spark.

His passing ability is quality. On the ball, going foward he can keep it. I would agree putting Cohen in the middle alongside Perch problem is I would much rather see McGugan in the side than Arron Davies. Against Cardiff McGugan had to play when it got too much we had to bring a right back on to replace him because there is no depth in our squad.

Players like McGugan essentially have an automatic place at the moment solely because there is no competent replacements available to us. I hate having Cohen on the wings but he is 10 times better than Arron Davies!!!

Think about it. Who is available to us that is not injured outside the starting 11 at Cardiff to replace McGugan with?? The answer is no one. Tyson was clearly playing through injury at Cardiff and was not on form aswell. Our resources need additions and I pray that some strikers, a winger and 2 full backs are brought in ASAP.

Saturday clearly showed that our squad is paper thin and we need more players.

It's precisely because the fact that mcGugan thinks he's an automatic choice is maybe explaination of why he's so complacent in his play recently . Strolling around the field without challenging for the ball , not tracking back and let players glide past him and only putting in 10 minutes worth of good passing throughout the match is not really good enough. Just means that our midfield will be overrun and it has been overrun in the past couple of games. Yes , we did win but we had our strikers who are on form to thank for it.

McGugan is kind of overrated , the team certainly can function without him. He's hardly indispensible , last season he was in and out of the team and rightly so. When Davies talk of too many people not performing , McGugan has to be one of them.
We know mcgugan can play better than that , which is why the recent performances is not acceptable. He needs to be dropped till he either wake ups , got rested enough and regain back his form. McGugan now is just a waste of space on the field.

I repeat though who... avaible at the moment would replace him??

We have no one and that is why McGugan is complacent and fully aware he will be in the side come the next game.

As for the point about winning. Who set up:

Tyson and Chambers against Sheff Wed?
McCleary and McGugan both midfield players

Earnshaw against Derby?
McCleary a midfield player

Earnshaw and Anderson against Plymouth?
McGugan and Cohen both midfield players

I am not too sure about Charlton but I am sure Anderson's shot essentially set up Tyson after a good cross from Thornhill? The other was a defensive error on their part.

To be fair to McGugan he comes up in that list more than other midfielders. But that does show the midfield as a unit are/were getting the job done.

McGugan is a quality player but he is a naive one too. As the evidence suggests in recent times McGugan has not been a "waste of space" as you put it. Davies will make sure he knows he was poor against Cardiff (I think that replacing him with a full back spelt it out for him) However, I do think he will be back in the side come wednesday simply because unless someone is brought in there are no competent replacements for him.

In central midfield with Savage and Green , if McGugan decides to hide again like the last time , Derby will win the match. They have been creating chances and yesterday , they finally started to score them.

I would put Thornhill in place of McGugan if he plays like he has been playing recently , heck , i'll put even Davies. Yes , Davies isn't that good but nowadays , Davies at least tracks back and help out the defence a bit. McGugan only tracks back when he feels like it.

I watched the highlights of Derby on the championship. The only one creating things was Commons from what I saw. We could rest our key players for the league and I think we would win.

Derby have only proved to me they are a poor side after watching them both against forest and on telly.

Sure they created a vast amount of chances but when they mosses 3 or 4 sitters they got 2 goals. More to the point Coventry were disgraceful defensively in the first half and when they improved Derby had hardly had any oppurtunities on goal.

Playing McGugan will not be pivotal in our result. As long as we put in an average defensive performance then we will most likely win.

Remember there win came due to bad defending from Coventry not because they are a good attacking threat.

Thornhill seems to make McGugan play a bit - his urgency rubs off on the other player. McGugan doesn't seem to understand that first you need to get the ball or get it back; you need to fight for the right to play 'your' football. We, in the Upper Trent End were just getting a little irritated with him last home match. At times, he shows all the skill in the world but was strolling round as though he was too good for us at others. So, I'd put Thornhill in; if only one can be used, Thornhill first - McGugan on the bench........at the moment.
