Looking back at the side that started the first game of the 2005/06 just shows how far we have come.

Pedersen, Eaden, Breckin, Cullip, Curtis, Holt, Southall , Gardner , Commons, Taylor (C), Dobie

Taylor and Dobie strike-force? lol

yeah it does make me proud of the team we have assembled now, consisting of players who will go out there and give everything, as well as quality. We also seem to have a real togetherness in the squad, as well as good cover for positions (left back i know), whereas then we consisted of a team of nobodys looking to double their money playing for forest. I think the league one days gave us the kick up the arse to be where we are now, and if looking back at that team doesn't kick our arses into the premier league, i don't know what will.

Breckin, Southall and Commons aside that team was a complete shower of shit. It's little wonder it took us three years to be promoted when we had such garbage in the team.

That team (or slight variations of it) nearly drove me to completely give up on football.

It's Baggio

John Robertson
It was Gary.

Grant didn't sign until the January after.

I wonder if we still had that ilk now, and were still lower third tier lurkers - would I be suscribed to Forest Player? Would I be posting on here much or at all?

You can never stop supporting your club but like a wife gone ugly, sometimes it's just impossible to go at it with as much enthusiasm as you did once upon a time.

and to think i was gutted when news broke that southall had left lol

There's no shame in that. Out of that side he was one of only two players worthy of wearing the Garibaldi (the other being Commons whenever he bothered to put some effort in) and provided us with one of those two rarest of things at Forest (the other being a left back); a consistent threat from corners.

Rune Pedersen in net.....Jesus christ he was shit! It always baffled me why he got in the team over the Mighty Paul Gerrard!

I think at the time Megson had fallen out with Gerrard over his refusal to move to Nottingham and decided to bench him to make a point.

Nick.

Once known as Nick.Doyle.nffc on 'ere.
The only good player in that team was Southall, and Commons at times...

The team that played the day we were relegated to league one was even worse:

Gerrard, Curtis, Morgan, Melville, Taylor, Robertson, Gardner, Evans, Powell, Commons, Dobie. Subs: Doyle, Louis-Jean, Hjelde, Bopp, Harris.

That team would probably have struggled badly in league one such was the depths we sank to.

I find myself struggling to put faces to half of these names. Unfashionable as they was.

Going even further back, a few weeks ago I was playing a really old version of Championship manager and came across Davy Oyen.

My God he was a waste of space.

yes it really looks like Megson had "cleared out the deadwood..." there - what a team of finely honed, "with us or against us" players they were: ready to set the third division alight with the famous "Nottingham forest brand" of flowing total football - we should never forget what a sterling job the ginger headed messiah did for us ... as player and manager ... superlatives escape me (or was that wind?)

Pedersen, Eaden, Breckin, Cullip, Curtis, Holt, Southall , Gardner , Commons, Taylor (C), Dobie

A quick 'where are they now?' analysis...

Pedersen - Lyngby BK (Danish Premier League)
Eaden - Assistant Manager of Peterborough United after retiring playing for Kettering in the Blue Square Premier
Breckin - Chesterfield (League 2)
Cullip - Retired due to injury after playing for Lewes (Blue Square Premier)
Curtis - Looking for a new club after leaving Northampton (League 2)
Holt - Lowestoft Town FC (Kwik-Save frozen foods division, or something)
Southall - Dover Athletic (Blue Square South)
Gardner - Eastwood 'Badge Badger' Town (Blue Square North)
Commons - Derby County (Championship)
Taylor - Wrexham (Blue Square Premier)
Dobie - St. Johnstone (Scottish Premier League)

So, in other words, not one single player went on to bigger and better things. In fact only one, Commons, is even playing at the same level (3 at a stretch, dependent on your opinion of where the Danish premier league and Scottish premier league beyond the 'big 2' are in comparison to the championship).
