Morgan Anthony Gibbs-White

The tough part is that his contract expires in a year. So even if he is worth the same as Rogers (based on ability), his actual monetary value will be less. I thought it strange at the time of the renewed contract last year that it wasn't extended, felt like it was set up for him to move on.

Really hoping we can get him to sign a new long-term contract as he is our most important player.

I don't see him going unless someone stumps up £100m or more. Only at that level will we consider it, and only then because the offers will be half that or less in 12 months time.

If that happens then we've got quite a big wad of cash to spend to backfill and improve the wider squad. MGW is extremely good, but like Anderson there'll be a time where we need to replace him at some point. Easier to do it with £100m burning a hole in your pocket than not.

I always felt there would be a sale this summer instead, but maybe if certain clubs came in. I think Arsenal are the danger here. Before they tried for rogers I didn’t know why they wouldn’t go for MGW instead. I know we say that we shouldn’t have to sell and Marinakis won’t allow both MGW and Ando to go in the same year for our own good. But MGW has deserved a big move if anyone has, he’s been immense for 4 seasons, even last season after missing out on a move he knuckled down and was brilliant.

He's got 2 years left on his contract as of this summer, so he needs to either extend this summer or we're in danger of only getting £35m/£40m for him next summer.

Both parties will be fully aware of this.

Ideally he extends even by just one year to give us some breathing space re his sell on figure next summer, or if he's committed and happy here he signs a new 3/4 year deal with a possible pay rise.

It might depend on who we bring in but managerial wise we'd now got someone in who's on the next level.

Ah that's great, I'd forgotten that. It is also listed on the Contract Thread on here as being 2 years from 2025.

I'd guess Gomes is there to replace Tielemans/cover for Onana's injury.

They will soon have a Morgan Rogers shaped hole in their team.

Dont forget what we get in return for that loss of value though.
A year of our talisman and captain.

He’s 26 and coming off a season he’s unlikely to replicate numbers wise.

His stock is never going to be this high. 27 next summer moves him into an entirely different bracket for a potential buyer.

If he has any intention to move on and upwards he’d almost certainly need to push for that this summer.

Not a chance we'll sell any other major asset Thai summer. EM would have assured Glasner of that as part of getting him here.

And even if we entertained the notion, we'd want more than Villa got for Rogers - which nobody would pay.

I reckon the 13 million quid a year was probably enough to get him here even if we were to sell every squad player and replace them with 11 Jonjo Shelveys
I thought that said replace with 11 giant Steinways then

People saying MGW deserves a move. We need to change this mentality. He deserves to stay. He deserves Forest and we're on the up. Let's build something, not dismantle
The issue for me is whether he wants to test himself at the very highest level. There's no doubting he's good enough.

It's possible that becoming a club legend and staying in the area for his family means more to him but it's more likely in my opinion that he'll want to play in the Champions League at some point. Preferably whilst he's in his prime.

This is a critical point now, he's got 2 years left and will wipe circa £40m off his value if he gives us another year then decides he's off. A club like ours can't afford to allow our now most valuable asset to leave for nothing.

I fear he either commits to another extension sooner rather than later or he'll be sold if anything around £80-100m is put on the table. We can talk about Marinakis not letting players leave all we want but he's a businessman first and foremost.

Villa sold Rogers for £117m but they're making a profit of £100.5m on him, given they bought him from Boro for £16.5m. That being said though, 20% of that profit has to go to Boro/Man City so Boro get another £16m and City get £4m. That means they're getting about £97m for Rogers but then they've just bought Manzambi as well for £50m, so they've got £47m left. They essentially traded in Gomes for Tielemans as well.

So, this idea that he's going to Villa when we'd legitimately want at the very least like £80m for Gibbs-White and Villa are on a tight leash with UEFA, seems a stretch.

That being said, I do think teams will ask the question.

I think its Arsenal we need to worry about, they were after Rogers and Odegaard is on the decline (and Eze been pretty shit)
