Newcastle getting done over yesterday in respect of Europe doesn’t help them track MGW, but they could end up with a shit load of cash to spend. They want 100m for Guimaraes, big money for Isak, and Almiron might end up in Saudi.

Maddison is a lazy player with an eye for a decent pass.
MGW is a dynamic player with an eye for a pass (10 assists and 5 goals in the season just ended).
If we swapped, we'd be getting the worst of the deal, that's for sure.
Maddison was playing some superb stuff before he got injured in November. I prefer Gibbs-White all day long, but come on.

MGW going to another club won't be the reason he breaks into the England squad. Southgate leaving England and someone who wants to play with a genuine No10 will be the reason he gets in.

No way I want to see him go. Marries genuine skill, technical ability, and spacial awareness to real heart, graft and determination.

I do wonder if he is moved on whether this resolves a problem both Cooper and Nuno have had in fitting a 10 and two wingers into the team. I think both really wanted a hard working 3 in midfeld but also knew they had to get MGW on the pitch because he's our best player.

Yep this

Southgate will be off after the Euros and if MGS stays and we get off to a decent start to next season I can see him getting his England call up

rose tinted specs off - I'd play any of Bellingham, Foden, Palmer there ahead of MGW as much as I love him.

Maddison is more established, but can see MGW passing him in the pecking order this year, but not the others.

I rate MGW - his stats in a struggling side are up with the best in the league but for £60 mill ore 30th June, “I’ll drive him there myself”.

Yeah to be fair we're very well stocked already in the attacking midfielder department and MGW wouldn't get in a starting eleven ahead of Foden or Bellingham but I do think he's good enough for a place in the squad

I am not sure I understand this post, why would you want to lose the heartbeat of our team? If this is what you meant? Is he worth more than £60m to us then at this moment he is, so let’s keep on building a team around him.

I'm confidant that our recruitment team can do anything Cooper did better. MGW should be easy to replace with that in mind, and is nothing more than a disposable asset, much like Cooper, much like our ground, much like us fans who stood by the club since the last century through some real shit.

I look forward to the new excitement MGW's replacement brings, and I hope that we are already looking to replace his replacement as soon as he gets here.

Those of you who disagree lack ambition.

Yes, not very clear.
In my mind I was working on a four point deduction if don’t sell and avoiding any deduction having money to reinvest on 1st July if we do. Of course their may another way to avoid a breach and we may not get 4 point penalty even if we do!
I wouldn’t sell after 30th June.

I’ve always been a fan of Connor Gallagher…..until this season. Something about his performances whenever I see him play, I’m not convinced he’s that ‘good’. Careless in possession, seems undisciplined within a system, potential big time ego. Bit harsh maybe, I now have him on the overrated list.
I thought he was great at palace. But I agree with what you say.

To be fair to Madison, he had 10 goals and 9 assists the year before this one. He's definitely not had a great season this year but his stats still aren't bad.

He's a cracking player with more credit in the bank than MGW.

Would I swap them? Probably not based on age. But I think Madison is the more accomplished player right now.

Yeah, those three are in a different league to MGW.

Maddison is pants, though.

I’m not totally disagreeing but I think for us, where we are MGW suits more than Maddison because of his work rate, speed etc…

Maddison would be a luxury player for us and don’t think he’d cover the ground and dictate like MGW does.

Foden and Bellingham clearly are. I think palmer is good but I think he is slightly overhyped. I think if MGW plays in that Chelsea team and scores 12 penalties that they got his stats would look insane too.

See your point, would still take him over MGW for this summer though.

Yeah I’m not necessarily saying MGW is better. I just don’t think palmer is anywhere near the standard of Foden or Bellingham and is maybe similar in level to MGW. He is however younger and less experienced so you’d imagine he’ll only get better. Will MGW get any better? Maybe slightly

Bellingham looks like he's playing in the wrong age group.
