More spin?

I have never bought into the whole "spin" theory that some others on here love.

But todays post-match interview with BD made me think. He went on and on about how we've just played big spending clubs with loads of money. He told us, the fans, pretty much to expect little spending because we are a "growing club" with emphasis on youth. Now im not sure on all the stats cause' truth be told, I cant be arsed to find out, but I think im right in saying that we were one of if not the top spending CCC club in the summer. Big signings, big wages for some.

So, we have gone from being the championships biggest spenders to a "growing club" that won't "buy success" like BD did at Derby. So you have to wonder, where has the money gone?

I have no problem with us brigning the young players through. Its obviously a healthy thing to do for the club. But why are they seemingly changing tact and lowering supporters expectations?

Im not having a go at the club, Im just genuinly confused. Was Billy told to say the things he said today to quash any unrest within the supporters?

I don't know, maybe im just being paranoid.

Im very rarely confused by the club to this extent which is why I dont post too many topics. But just thought id share my thoughts with you all.

i can see where you're coming from , in the summer there was talk from the chairman of aiming for the premier league but now it seems the target is just to literally hang on !

If these areas are not available for whatever reasons, then we shouldn't flit away our resources but to build what we have in preparation.

In my own mind, this season has never been anything other than a time for strengthening and for consolidation. We started off with pretty much the same squad and there will be a strategy to spend in the right areas.

If these areas are not available for whatever reasons, then we shouldn't flit away our resources but to build what we have in preparation.

I agree but what was in your mind didn't count. It was what was in ND's mind. He seemed to be ok spenidng money at the start of the season as he seemed to think play offs were realistic.

I was always happy with just safety though to be honest. Which is why im not complaining about the lack of spending. Im just confused by the fact they semed to have changed their mind on what sort of club we are.

Doughty's long term goal is to see us in the premiership I think he wants us to be a Charlton type club, sustained premiership status with a longer term bid for ambition. He will not throw money at the club for no reason. He is a wise chairman and in all of tense purposes despite the pain we've endured in the long term we will be far ahead many clubs....

However, the mistakes made by the club in terms of transfers are quite apparant and the use of Pleat I think in the future will have a detrimental effect in some cases. I imagine a man like Billy want's to run the club top to bottom and has his own ideas on transfers. I don't buy into this director of football crap. It's and idea in Europe and frankly has yet to work in this country.

We'll see what happens, but overall I'd not be crying if Mark Arthur left the club...

When CC was sacked MA explained that the board had suggested to him that we were short on experience at both playing level and backroom staff. CC declined the offer to bolster the playing staff with experience from resources that had been made available. This was given as one of the reasons for his departure. So I agree it is a bit confusing that BD now says we are a "growing club" and his comments regarding lack of funds available for transfers. Just hope this is all "treading water" until we get some experience players in via the loan option

I think that all BD is saying is that:
- The scum have just come down from the Premiership - and therefore get parachute payments
- QPR have a very wealthly owner and will therefore be able to throw stupid money around
But both clubs have lots of experienced plays at this level.

We have just come up from League One - With the exception of Earnshaw, Anderson (Now Injured) and Moussi (Injured) we have a League 1 squad - but these players are all young and starting to learn their trade in the Championship.
Hence why we are a growing club

I have to say every time I here Billy Davies speak I like him more and more - I think he is just being very honest about the situation we are in.

I think it's mind games from BD to be honest. He's trying to make us feel like, what we call, underdogs and use that to instill a fighting spirit in the squad.

Its rather better for 5 months to "spin" how we are growing, and not much money - cause come the summer it will stop clubs asking stupid transfer fee's.

We were the biggest spenders last summer, and this January all of our offers were rejected as people wanted more money than we were offering.

So, now its time to sign nobody, talk small, talk patience, talk no money, and then buy a load of players in the summer for much more reasonable prices.

I'm glad more and more people are becomming aware of the spin that has blighted this club like New Labour have blighted the UK for over a decade. I'm surprised some people have taken this long to realise it, but at least some people are now seeing.

All this "we won't be held to ransom" bollocks really gets to me. We're not Man City! We're not being held to ransom, we're being asked for a fair price for teams players. Mind you, I naturally didn't come to expect anything from this club in January, as where the January transfer window is concerned, Mark Arthur ensures someone loses the key every year.

Davies himself said that, without new players in January, he saw nothing but a prolongued struggle for survival. Granted, there is still every chance we will survive (the spirit of the team has been excellent recently) but I am yet again annoyed by Nottingham Forest ensuring we make it has difficult as possible for ourselves.

I was making a point about the start of the season and the people we brought in. Earnshaw and Cole will both have had big deals. Especially Earnshaw. Anderson will be on a good wage and I think we will be paying most of it. Moussi had French top league teams sniffing around him so we may have had to offer him a big wage too. Tyson and Perch have also both signed contracts that I doubt will be small.

I think spin is a part of football these days and that our Club is no different to many others.

The fact is we quite clearly attempted to spend. We put in 2 offers for 2 decent players that were tottalling around £1m.

I think BD is trying to get a positive spin out of the situation. He knows he will be stuck with the squad he has for a while now. With only being able to have 5 loan players in his 16 so Anderson and Lynch already in and then we have 3 slots essentially he has to prioritise who he wants. He will probably be taking his time over doing that since there are soo many areas we need to strengthen.
