Its a joke what Billy has done to this promising young striker.Good in the air and a great finisher i cant understand why he hasnt started up front yet this season.he's much better that mcgoldrick(overrated) or that vegetable adebola.he's looks like a shadow of the player he was towards the end of last season when he was banging in the goals.rem bristol and that quality finish last day of the season.

I agree, to me he looks a natural goalscorer. Now he just sits in midfield being told to kick people, where McGoldrick gets the play up front an just wonder in between positions like a idiot.

it's a joke that an every day fan, whom does not see the players train day to day can claim to be more knowledgeable than a highly rated and vastly experience football manager!

I agree.

We have better strikers than Garner in the squad, so he's not getting a go up front which is perfectly understandable.

He's done a good job on the right when he plays and he'll be here next season no matter what league we're in.

Garner's time will come. As will Mcgugan's. This is what happens when you have more than just 11 1st teamers.

Hes score more goals than McGoldrick, Hell do a better job than Adebola.
Ill admit he shouldnt be playing now as we have a good partnership in Earnshaw and Blackstock it seems, it allso helps than Earnshaw has decided to work for the team.

He wouldn't do a better job than Adebola at all. Dele is so important in the last 10-15 minutes for us as he's big, strong, good in the air and good on the deck whereas Garner is far too lightweight to do the same job.

I don't think there's too much between him and McGoldrick, but I would rather see Garner partner Adebola than McGoldrick away from home.

He's obviously not good enough as a striker, and he's been woeful when played in midfield, so he's clearly not deserving of a position other than the bench.

No wonder my post count..
If Joe Garner is such an amazing striker, where was he all last season? All he did was score a handful of goals - mostly when he made a start due to Earnie or Tys being injured.

He showed his talent in bursts (Southampton goals) but had a lazy attitude IMO.

D'you know what amazes me?

We're fourth in the Championship, we were 3rd at the weekend.

That's the highest we've been since Paul Hart took us to the playoffs, we're playing the best football we've played since then as well.

The games we've lost have largely been unlucky.

We've beaten Derby. We've beaten Newcastle. We've beaten Leicester.

We haven't lost an away game since March (of course, we haven't won too many this season either - but we are a work in progress).

YET SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL MOANING ABOUT POINTLESS SHIT!

To be fair, he was injured for a while (January - October I think) so had gone a long time without football but he got himself fit and looked interested a lot of the time but he had too many games where he seemed to be somewhere else in his mind.

He scored some fantastic goals and made some excellent appearances for us - moreso than poor ones - but Billy obviously feels we have better options up front.

He is only 21 as well, so has a bright future ahead of him at Forest.

While we're doing so well, though, I see absolutely no reason to worry about why Joe Garner isn't starting up front.

You've made your point look stupid by showing your ignorance in calling Adebola a vegetable when he's been doing exactly what's been asked of him and has been brilliant coming off the bench to help us gain plenty of late points.

He also needs to bear in mind that Adebola started pretty much every game for Bristol whereas he's coming off the bench for us.

He scored 10 (I think) for them last season and has two for us off the bench while having a hand in numerous others.

Far from being a vegetable in my opinion.

Garner did a superb against Derby when he was obviously detailed to mark Savage out of the game, Savage was anonymous until we took Garner off after 60 minutes. When we took Garner off Savage became more influential and this turned the game.

You might want to check this, but Garner was injured until about October or November. Then he scored 6 goals in his first 9 games.

And that was his first 9 games ever in the Championship.

Personally I think Garner is easily as good a finisher as Earnshaw and he also has a bit of magic and the ability to do something a bit special as he has shown on a few occasions. He's very rarely been played as an out and out striker at Forest though.

I'm not saying he should be playing or having a go at Billy, it's just a shame to see a quality player sitting on the bench. Bit of a waste of talent.

Adebola is important as he gives us strength, height and a physical presence upfront - especially towards the end of a game. He's also surprised me with how mobile he can be (sometimes, other times he is a bit of an oil tanker).

Garner is one of those who does nowt for 88 minutes but then does something magical that no-one else can do. Plus he's still only young and has lots of time to develop - letting him go would be a mistake I think. He also did a good job in midfield as a wind-up merchant - and having a seriously mardy player who is liable to be sent off at any moment is a necessity for every football club.

i dont like to see garner in midfield at all, but at the moment he will have to wait his turn, earnie and dexter are definately our 2 best forwards, adebola is perfect for the job asked of him and tyson has raised his game this season, but i would prefer to see garner above mcgoldrick in the pecking order though as hes unimpressed me this season, although he looked good early on he just seems to be the sort of striker thats not bad at anything but has no distinctive strengths either.

I think the last thing I would call Garner is lazy. When he does play he works his arse off. He can be petulant but lazy definately not.

Garner fact: He loves yellow cards, so much so he will kick out for little to no reason just to bask in the soft glow of the yellow.

ooh ref put the card under my chin so i can see if i like butter, ooh i do!!!

The players we've got up front do specific jobs, even mcgoldrick.

Though to me, I think mcgoldrick looks far,far better on the wing. When hes up front he just plays to deep (whether thats down to billy or himself though, i dont know) and garner offers more of a goal scoring threat.

Was garner not up front against bristol? From where i was sat he looked to be playing on the left of a front 2...and did nothing but give away free kicks.
He needs a run in the side, but he wont get ahead of earnie and dexter.

He's good enough as a striker but he's not been given a chance at all. On tuesday , I would have played Garner in midfield against sheffield united rather than have Gunter there. At least there would only be 1 square peg in 1 round hole , instead on tuesday we had 2 square pegs playing in round holes and as a result , neither are effective at all. Chambers is chambers , crap at RB and Gunter was anonymous and not used to playing at right wing.

I think he is under instructions from BD to play this way. As I remember the last 2 times he has played he was a totally different player, clearly he was told to play it clean!

Well said Winnits. The fact is the team that Billy is putting out IS WINNING AND BEING SUCCESFUL. Therefore, the players who aren't in the team, can't exactly moan about not being in the team. They need to work hard in training and grab an opportunity when it comes up, as Earnshaw has done in recent weeks.

Billy has proven two things - 1 if a player on the outside looking in come in and makes an impact, they'll usually keep their place and - 2 he rarely picks a side which doesn't look like winning (even when players are 'out of position')
