Minutes Silence at the City Ground

It's rare that something really winds me up....however....

Before tonights England U21 game, there was minutes silence in rememberence of those killed this weekend at the Ivory coast match.

At several points you could hear quite clearly on the TV footage, the sound of horns being blown and the odd shout. The footage then cut to what looked like the lower trent where I quite clearly noticed a blonde haired girl, with her mum having a right old chat and a laugh.

I seriously hope, though unfortunately I doubt it, that these weren't Forest fans.

If they are, they should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Our club is on display to the rest of Britain and we come across looking like a complete group of idiots.

I know it's only a minority but as a collective we'd be judged by those watching. I hope those who did it - and especially those daft bints caught on camera - never come to the City Ground again. We don't want you.

(Apologies, this could have been in the Rant thread!)

Disappointing, I imagine it wasn't regular football fans, just day trippers unaccustomed with what was going on.

At least it wasn't for Jade Goody.

This pissed me off too, absolutely disgusted with an idiotic minority making us look bad again.

Never have I wanted to belt someone so hard through my TV set, to the point where I had to tell myself it wasn't physically possible!

I commented on this to the girlfriend.

It was on tv and does not show people of Nottingham in a good light at all. They should be disgraised with themselves and think about the fact they've let the people of Nottingham down.

It's hardly any more offensive than the predictable decision of the Western media to sweep the events beneath the carpet.

Sky Sports News carried a one-minute feature with a man at the scene (who thanked God for Ivory Coast's victory) and returned to the blanket coverage of Frank Lampard's soundbites.

If Britain took as little notice of the misbehaviour of a few then our reputation shouldn't suffer too much.

I was ashamed whilst listening to it. Wanted to turn the TV off.

Heard plenty of horns blowing and some kids laughing towards the beginning. The twat that shouted "who are ya?" ought to be banned from the CG for life. What a w**ker.

A minutes silence is really a pointless token gesture, the truth is the majority of people couldn't give much of a shit about what happened, you might get a 'aww that's awful' at best.

We only arrived at the ground just in time and so we were just making our way to our seats during the minute's silence and I couldn't believe what I witnessed. I heard the announcement over the PA system in the concourse and then seconds later I heard 'Who are ya?' from some brainless moron before numerous horns. In all my years of following Forest I have never witnessed such shameful behaviour so, thankfully, I can only assume that these people are not Forest fans.

The club (if possible) should find the people responsible on CCTV and subsequently name and shame them in the Evening Post. It's pathetic that these idiots lack the self-restraint to remain silent for one minute... is it really that difficult?

Can't really add much, I was disgusted.

The horns, people shouting 'come on England' and also 'who are ya?'

No excuse at all, I was ashamed to be in the same ground as them.

Brain donors r us were out in force tonight, loved the silence to show off in. Sign of the times and lack of respect.

I too was discusted with how well observed the silence was.

Usually you get the odd mobile going off and the odd fan arriving late shouting something, but tonight was bloody disrespectful.

The idiots booing at full time derserve a slap too!

We went in Southbank after the game, was about half 11 I think until it closed :)

A Group of lads started singing 'Number One Is Brian Rice' at me after the game too ;D

I'm already getting tired of 'who's Rice' though ::)

There's nothing to say it was people from Nottingham though. I saw plenty of people wearing clobber from other clubs - Leicester, Walsall, Wolves, Wednesday etc

Nick.

Once known as Nick.Doyle.nffc on 'ere.
I was in lower bridgford, and then all I heard was "CMON ENGLAND!"
and the odd horn blowing, to be honest, that's disrespectful.
And should be ashamed whoever fount it funny to do it.

We didn't even know what the minutes silence was for, we couldn't tell what they said over the tannoy, and it was kids blowing the horns, so although it was annoying, I wouldn't get too uptight about it, I've witnessed far worse disrespect of a minute's silence.

no matter what is was for, the vast majority of people were decent enough to be quiet, i for one didnt hear what it was for infact i thought it was for Andajan tradegy, well thats what i heard anyhow...and i knew it wasnt for this !! so its another case of the minorty spoiling it for the majority..

however and even though there is nothing worse than having a minutes silence for a tragedy the release at the end of it is great, everybody roars...i think we should do this everygame...find something slightly sad to get us all quiet about..such as a cat stuck up a tree or a woman having her purse snatched and then wacth us roar after the minute.

was it me or was the first half of the game sounding like the docks at southamptom ?? all horn and nothing else...

thanks to rice no4 for saying hello !!! :)

I didnt hear what the silence was for, i was too busy talking to the person next to me.
But found it funny when people shout, i know its disrespectful, but i cant help finding things like that funny, thats just the way i am, complete silence and someone breaks it, funny as f*** :)

I was in the lower Bridgeford and the minutes silence was not very well observed, idiots shouting, horns blowing and folk still trying to get to their seats. Not very good in my opinion.

But in other matters why does the lower bridgeford have more toilets, food & drink stalls then anywhere else in the ground its a frelling disgrace.

This happened again at Wembley last night, people shouting out.

A large number of fans booed them, which was good. Let them know it won't be tolerated.

Even the commentators picked up on it all.

Yeah, it was weird there last night. I think the initial noise during the silence came from the Ukrainian fans who were directly opposite where I was sat.

To which one partcularly chavvy Fan a few rows down shouted 'Shut Up.'

Ermmm....yes, that'll really help the munutes silence. lol
