Michael Ball, worth a gamble?

Without a club since being released by Man City in the summer. Being a free agent means we can sign him outside of the transfer window. 30 years old, surely it's worth offering a contract til the end of the season?
 
Maybe. He was still a good player last season. You've got to wonder why he hasn't got a club though. Maybe he isn't bothered about playing football and just wants money. If his head is right then yes.

Invite him and Giles Barnes for a trial and if they impress offer them heavily performance related deals.
 
He would be certainly worth taking on trial and then possibly acquiring on a deal to the end of the season. Birmingham did something similar with Stephen Carr last season and that turned out well for all concerned.
 
<puts serious hat on> ...cos there's me thinking this was on the back of "Robbie Williams" and "Tom Cruise" rumours today!

Completely agree. We just need a solid left-back. He doesn't have to pull up any trees but just be a proper left-back. Like Mister Shorey.

so many may not fancy the gamble and would he be able to jump, let alone really run... i doubt it...its a nasty injury to recover from, judging by what i just read.

Especially one who has as little ball control as he does.

Panthers you drunken bum, when are you going to get your arse to a game? Me and Ben/Alvar will be at the Peterborough game if you want to come along, we'll be drinking in rounds though. :wink:
 
He would take a while to get back to match fitness but certianly a player I'd take even on a monthly contract.

victor moses joined me on champ manager at forest, but on reflection, I'd say in reality Billy should turn him down...and tell him to ply his trade elsewhere....or did he do this allready
 
Invite him down on for a trial, see how he gets on, if he is cack then give him a microphone and he can be like Cliff Richard is at Wimbledon at the City Ground when it rains.
 
He's better than what we've got so why not sign him up for the rest of the season? He's a good player.
 
Sign him until the end of the season and see where that leads!

If our scouting network isn't aware of a guy who's a left back, has played for England and is out of contract, I think we're in trouble. lol

I wrote Calderwood a letter telling him to sign Jason Brown in summer '06 as his contract just expired at Gillingham but he repied saying thanks but we've now just signed Paul Smith from Southampton.
 
I've rated this thread as a 2 - Bad.

I've been posting on here for several hours now and nothing gets higher than that.
