Gutted, this is terrible news :(

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has revealed Paul McKenna will not play again this season.

The influential skipper sustained a knee ligament injury against Swansea earlier this month.

The problem proved not to be as serious as first feared and Davies had initially expressed some hope of McKenna returning to action before the end of the campaign.

But now Davies is resigned to be without the midfielder for Forest's remaining six Championship games, as well as the play-offs.

He said: "He is finished. I don't think he will make the play-offs - I think he is done.

"I have known this was a massive blow since he got injured. The last player we could have afforded to lose this season was him.

"I think we could have afforded to lose any other player in the side this season - apart from McKenna.

"That is why it is such a blow. You could see that at Newcastle, because he would have pulled people around."

No wonder my post count..
I hope the rest of the team don't mope around moaning about this. In all honesty, it's a good job this news came about now and not next month.

argh bloody great was saying to a lad at work yesterday how important getting Mc back was. no point banging on about how we should of brought in cover during the loan window, lets just hope we dont pick anymore injurys up, Im worried about bristol city being a bit rough on us to f*** our chances up after gunters antics last year cost them.

I'm sure Billy said the same sort of thing when Earnie was injuried, then Earnie turns up on the bench the very next game

He also said Perch, McCleary and Lynch were done for the season a couple of weeks ago.

So he will be back for the play-offs then :)

In all seriousness, if he can't make it back it's a massive blow

McKenna told Jamie he'd be back for the play-offs when he saw him in the services on Monday night...

He'll be back - this is classic Billy. Just like him saying Newcastle are already promoted. Mind games.

He'll be back and it'll be a massive boost to the team and a demoraliser for the opposition

Yes, I wouldn't take this on face value just yet.

He may well be making a great recovery and Billy is just playing his mind games. As mentioned above, he's done it before so what's to say he isn't doing it now?

Even if this is his real opinion at the moment, there's still 5 or 6 weeks until the play-offs so he could recover faster than currently expected and still play.

All is not lost yet.

Hes been a fantastic player for us this season- so if his season is over then thanks to him for what he did on the pitch this season.
If he hadnt have been injured, i reckon hed have won player of the season.

I notice though billy uses the word "think" a few times, so maybe hes keeping it up his sleeve

If Billy really believes that McKenna will sit out the next six games, including the Playoffs should we play them, then it is indeed a huge disappointment.

However, the one thing I shall believe of Billy is not to believe what he tells the media and I'm hoping that includes what he's quoted saying via the club.

Terrible :( Think we'd have faired a lot better away recently with him, he was the core of our unbeaten run.

Gutted if he is not back. We will, without doubt miss his leadership qualities

To change the subject a bit, what do you think will happen to McKenna if we get promoted?

Will he make the step up and play for a year in the premiership or will the pace be too much for his old (ish) legs?

Its why he came, to get a chance at Prem. He will give it a bash look at Alexander at Burnley. He is one of the few of their players who has looked at home in Prem and he is older than McKenna.

Not sure that this will be the end. Perhaps a glorious return in the playoff final? I think he'll be with us if we go up and will perform adequately. It'll be harder to bully him off the ball (by Stoke, Blackburn, Bolton etc) than some of our other players.

Oh and by the way, good morning chaps, from a new member.
