McGugan's future?

Just what is the future for Lewis now? Will he play any part in the playoffs? Not involved again yesterday even when some of the squad players were getting a game. Have to say I really feel for him as he is a huge talent, played a big part last season, and it would have been great to see him carry that on this season, but sadly his work ethic lets him down and the manager just doesn't fancy him. Have to say on the fleeting occasions I have seen him this season, he has always had some impact on the game, and is always likely to score you a goal.

Doncaster away, it was his big chance to get back in the side, he didn't take it - a really lazy performance.

A shame because as you say, he's a real talent who doesn't seem to be able to apply himself.

A great talent but a poor attitude by most accounts... I think we will see him move on in the summer. Probably better for all concerned!

Depends when his contract's up really, if he only has one more year at the end of the season then he'll be up for a free move somewhere (well, there'd be compensation as he'd be under 24 still, but it would be f*** all).

If we have the squad to do so, then I'd loan him out for the 1st half of next season. He needs a run of games, he looks like someone that struggles to keep the weight off so having him play 20 minutes every 3 weeks isn't going to help.

Even if it's in League One, let him play week in, week out and get 20 or so games under his belt.

His goals this year have proved he's still got something to offer us at this level, as a capable 2nd choice. However if we're promoted to the Prem I think he falls out of that category and it would be acceptable to let him go. I can't think of many people who'd be happy for him to line up in a tough away trip to Stoke or the like, let alone the big boys.

There's more than a touch of the Eugene Bopp about him. More ability than nearly any player we've got, but if you can't turn that into meaningful 90 minute performances then what can you say. Calderwood or Hart would have probably stuck with him out of loyalty. Davies has raised the bar this season in every aspect of being a footballer and he hasn't improved enough to be part of it, them's the facts.

. . . . . . will be lucky if it's here.

I think he'll still be here next season regardless of what league we're in. Sadly I doubt he'll be playing though. I get the impression Billy is taking a hard stance with him i.e either get stuck in every game or your on the bench. Billy like the rest of us probably hopes he'll get the idea sooner or later! No harm playing him against plymouth though (think Cohen could do with week off) esp if they are relegated Monday.

Mc Gugan could be a Eugen Bopp revisited good impact player but a poor starter. Mc Gugan has great potencial but has poor application at times.

Bopp always struggled with his pace, but up until his injury was able to show a rich vein of form, basically because of his sublime skills. After his injury, he seemed to lose much of the little pace he had.
McGugan also has comparatively little pace, but seems to have lost his stamina too. It has to be down to him to look after himself and keep his fitness. I get the impression nfrom watching him move that he follows the 'Commons diet' and his slightly 'chopsy' look suggests beer! I might be totally wrong and am just trying to find reasons for him being out of shape.
Compare him with Garner - doesn't figure in the side much but still looked fit enough yesterday - clearly makes more effort with his fitness? I'd loan McGugan out - it will really be the crossroads of his career, where he should get the wake-up call ......... otherwise; oblivion of the lower leagues or worse. I feel slightly cheated by this guy.

real talent who doesn't seem to be able to apply himself.

I think you sum him up perfectly there.
Hes got so much potential, but for whatever reason just doesnt seem to be able to show it here.

Maybe he needs a change of club (on loan or permanently) to kick start his career.
I always thought he needed a team built round him to play at his best, whereas at forest we have so many attacking options that most of the game bypassess him- and he's not the type to take it by the scruff of the neck.
I think he needs to be that player that everything goes through.

Hope he can turn it around here, but if not good luck to him :)

Whos to say he wont play a part in the remaining games? Like Davies said, he wants all of his squad fit in case of injuries. He'd be mental to not get McGugan fit, if Raddy gets a knock who else could we actually rely upon to get a goal from midfield?

A loan move across the river to County wouldn't do him any harm. I think he's the kind of player who likes to be the center of things and with County I could see them building the team around him.

It'd be a win/win situation if the move were similar to that with Moloney - send him on a 6 month deal and see how it goes. If he shows no application and just coasts along then maybe it would be time to move him on if we could get a decent amount for him.

McGugan will not play for Forest again while Billy is the manager...

Heard similar stories about Joel Lynch a while back, which were patently untrue.

Well, i am firmly sticking to my story but it does seem that Lynch has now been given a second chance. Everyone deserves that.
