Another thought: Sels has had no challenge for the No. 1 shirt for too long.
With John retaining the shirt it might just focus Sels on getting it back a bit more.

And was absolutely great when he didn't have any challenge for his place. He felt 100% confident, knew the manager fully trusted him and it showed on the pitch.
I've never believed in this "two no1s" thing personally. It doesn't work unless you're a big team with a very large squad and you know you're going far in all competitions. And even then, it doesn't always work. Sels has his first and probably last World Cup to go to in the summer, and is almost 34 - I doubt he's going to sit around on the bench waiting for the next chance to play a game. I hope we haven't created an issue where there wasn't one.

Apart from his saves, thought he did well with Arsenal’s corners. They make it incredibly difficult for goalkeepers but he kept getting something on the ball to clear. Excellent performance.

Really hope the injury isn't serious, as our back 5 have built up an understanding and a new player even if competent, might result in the sum of the parts not being as good.
