I'm sure many of you are aware that Matthieu Louis Jean was given the job of Forest scout back in September, even though it wasn't on the OS. I've only become aware as he was interviewed on Forest Player. He certainly seems to be earning his wage, judging by the amount of French triallists we have been looking at, and presumably the signing of Adam Nkusu was something to do with him. Good to see an old Forest player still has a soft spot for us.

I love Louis-Jean. I think the play off team he was in, including Huckerby on loan, might be the best I've ever seen.

f*** me, that's a good team. Dawson and Walker in defence together? That's like some football manager dream selection, but it was real and it was stupendous.

As an aspiring young right back I LOVED watching Louis-Jean as a kid. He made everything look easy.

It must have been him who pointed us in the direction of that Harry Novillo from Lyon, although doesn't appear we've signed him.

Clubs don't tend to make big announcements when they hire new scouts, it kinda gives the game away...

Nice to see MLJ getting gainful employment though.

Seeing that team again is rather arousing.

Prior to Louis-Jean we also had another good French right-back called Thierry Bonalair.

Those were the days. Maybe we need to take a leaf out of Newcastle's book and start picking up some of these lads from across the English Channel again.

Bonalair was great. Right back one week, left wing the next.

Didn't Ward, Louis-Jean, Brennan and Huckerby leave for Norwich? We smashed them at the CG 4-0 and Worthington bought half our team.

He wasn't great. Not quite good enough to hold down a place in an admittedly decent team. Think he arrived as a right winger.

He did arrive as a right-winger but then most good full-backs defend by attacking so well. Think Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines as two current examples. Cole started life as a striker and was converted into a full-back, and Baines began life as a left-winger.

Bonalair was a useful player. A bit like James Perch. He filled in everywhere and performed solidly without doing anything special. Which is all you want from a defensive player.

I liked MLJ, but I remember there were plenty who used to want rid of him because his crossing wasn't particularly good.

Was announced last month that Mathieu is the new head of recruitment at OGC Nice.

After being a scout for Forest he had the same job at Man Utd before this.

Now working with Patrick Vieira and Gilles Grimandi.
