Matt Kilgallon

Just had a Blades fan at work ring me to ask if I'd heard anything of our interest in Kilgallon. He's stalling on a new contract, and Leeds are due a 20% of anything that Sheffield United receive over 1million.

Definitely one I've not heard recently.

Not heard anything about us being interested.

Think his conract's up at the end of the season, so I doubt he'd cost much more than a mill.

Yes, I heard this on Talksport... Seems to be the popular rumour at the moment and Killy wants to go there apparantly.

Thought they had to sell a load first?

Well, it looks like Kilgallon and Sol Campbell in so probably Coloccini will be moved on to cover the cost.

From a really tenuous friend of a friend situation I've heard that Kilgallon's dad has said that Sheff Utd haven't accepted any bids from anywhere for him yet but there are seven clubs that have made their interest known and Matthew has expressed his desire to move on to a club in the premier league or one that has a good chance of going up.

I can't blame the lad, we're having an awful season. I think he'll do well in the premiership but not have quite the same impact as Jags did at Everton before injury.

I think if the season had started a bit better for you he'd have committed himself at least until the end of the season but Newcaslte making their intent public probably did a bit of head turning and hasn't helped.

Well if everything in the papers is to be believed hes either on his way to Bolton, Hull, Wolves or Newcastle, take your pick, i cant see him coming here.

But then again, who knows where he will end up, would love to see him here though, class player would suit us to the ground!

Sheffield United have handed Matthew Kilgallon a one-week deadline to decide whether he is quitting the club.

Kilgallon, who is out of contract in the summer, refused to sign a new deal at Bramall Lane in October and is expected to leave during the January transfer window.

Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase for the former Leeds man and Blackwell wants Kilgallon to make a decision on his future during next month's transfer window.

"There has been a real grapevine of whispers of where 'Killa' may or may not go, but all I know is that unless there is a proper bid he stays here," said Blackwell.

"There's a strong possibility that he could go, but at this stage I'm not resigned to it. What I do want is clarity on the situation because it's frustrating having to cover all the bases.

"We have given Matt and his agent one week to decide if they are determined that he moves on.

"We have a club to run and if by the end of the first week in January he's still here he will be staying unless something unforeseen happens."

He's going to Newcastle and is no better than what we currently have. This season, he'd be an expenisve bench warmer wage-wise.

Central defender or Left Back, so would provide good competition in those roles and back up in case Vila call back Shorey.

The way Wilson keeps having twinges in his back, we need better cover than just Luke Chambers.

Would make sense if we were interested.

Left midfielder, Left back, Centre back.......the main positions we need players for.

I think the same would apply at Newcastle.

Kilgallon would walk into our side ahead of either centre back.

Not that we have a hoping hell of getting him mind.

He's nowhere near that good. Just a decent player. Look at our defensive record compared to Sheff Utd.

Sheffield United have been torn apart by injuries this season though and Kilgallon has been played at left back. Whilst he can play there it's only been as an emergency because nobody else can, just looking at him you can tell he's a centre back. It's comparable to when Wes had to fill in at full back quite a few seasons ago.

He's a top quality defender and is Premiership standard he's had a poor season so far this year but he's made it clear he wants out and is being played out of position. If we did sign him (Which I doubt we will) he'd come in and sit on the bench and have to wait for his chance, when he got the chance he'd keep either of our two out of the team. The only issue I'd have with signing him is his wages and I'd also be unsure who we'd pair him with at the back, I think Wes would suit his style more but Wilson has been man of the match for me in our last three games and as such is as close as can be to undroppable in our squad.

I really do not understand comments like that. Look at the Forest players in the first few games of this season, or last season.

What 2009 should have taught fickle Forest fans is..... do not judge any player on how they performed in the past, judge them only on what they can do now in the present set up.

I would suggest 60% had no faith in Wilson, now the same 60% call him "undroppable".

Kilgallon would be an excellent signing, can Billy/MA/DP/ND pull it off if they want to ? Thats the question.

I'm sure you would agree defending is not about one player but you defend as a team and then as a back five.

Kilgallon in my view is better than any centre back we have.

Agreed.

And what kind of example would you set to the team ?

Our defence has been doing so well and our defenders have been fantastic so let's get a defender from another championship club and straight away put him in the first team even though the defenders hasn't done anything wrong. I'm sure that will go down well like a lead balloon to our team morale.

I've been advocating all season about strengthening the centre of our defence, but how could we better it by bringing in Kilgallon?

Kilgallon will want to go to a club that can guarantee him an immediate first team place.

Like most on here I wouldn't have imagined Wilson & Morgan playing their rolls together so well - they have been immense. Neither of them seems to be injury prone and they have collected only 3 bookings all season between them so if it ain't broken - "Don't Fix It"

I'm now convinced we could spend money in other areas and rely on Chambers - Lynch & Perch when we have the odd hiccup.

Since letting in those 4 goals (At Home) way back in August we could not have done better and here's a few stats to prove it.

League Games Only.

AUG:....Goals Against - 8
Sept:...Goals Against - 3
Oct:....Goals Against - 2
Nov:....Goals Against - 4
Dec:....Goals Against - 1

10 Goals in 4 months - Who betters that?

Yellow Cards:

Wilson....1
Morgan.....2

No Red Cards

Ah no , we need better backup than chambers , Lynch & Perch which is where someone with the potential to be better but is willing to bid his time will come in , maybe someone young like *shotton from stoke or a solid lower league defender like Whitbread . Are there any other outstanding big powerful defenders in the lower leagues ?

*Mark Robins had claimed that Davies had tried to poach Shotton & Dickinson from stoke on loan before they went to Barnsley.

I do tend to agree with you and I did think of signing lesser knowns, but we would need to convince anyone coming in that they would only get a game if either Morgan or Wilson got injured or were banned - and would any of these lesser knowns be good enough for the Premiership if we did go up!!!

Chambers to date hasn't let us down, so I would say he was adequate for now but wether we are in the CCC or the Prem. next season I suspect Lynch & Perch will have moved on but they could each be usefull if required for the odd game.
