Nice to see that nobody is pre judging the issue and you are taking an open minded aproach to what might be said.

The only difference from all the other years is that he knows what he's going to say by heart after his annual practice.

What would be admirable is if, for once, he would agree to be in the BBC Radio Nottingham studio for Matchtalk and engage in a frank discussion with the callers. The only reason why he wouldn't want to do this is if he knows that his excuses won't stand up to scrutiny.

I was a bit disappointed that we signed nobody, but to get players of a quality to improve our team is not easy.

If we could attract players like Gunter and Blackstock fighting relegation last season, I'm confident we can get quality players in on loan over the next few months - with a view to taking them on permanently should we win promotion.

I don't blame him for not agreeing to an open question time. It is almost impossible to hold a debate which will be controlled by the rantings of emotionally charged individuals, some of which it must be said would be of limited intellect.

It's a bit like the situation in most companies were the employees nearly always think that they can run the company better than the boss!

In any situation of this type an open forum of the type you suggest doesn't work mainly because the person on the receiving end will not be able to explain the situation to the satisfaction of an emotionally driven fan. There are two major reasons for this; firstly that the questioner will not accept that that he may under any circumstances could be wrong and in any event the average supporter will not have the skill set to understand the reasons for some of the answers he will receive. Secondly Marther would not be able to answer everything in full as this would reveal his future likely actions and may compromise his ability to act and of course as soon as he evades a question this only incenses the situation further even though the evasion is for all the right reasons.

And although you may not agree I can tell you that Marther is a competent business man and is certainly not the foll many on here portray him to be.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of what you've said I've thought myself rather despairingly when listening to various football (and other) phone-ins. A lot of the people who call in do appear to be significanly lacking intellectually.

However, in these situations, Marthur will actually come off looking better because it will be quite clear that he's dealing with someone who can't engage in a reasoned debate. In the past, when Forest managers have agreed to be on these shows, the presenters have politely brought these calls to an end when it has become clear that the caller is incapable of conceding that the opposite side of the argument can be just as valid.

Peter Trembling of Notts County has been on the show a couple of times this season and come across well. The vast majority of County fans who called in to speak to him clealy appreciated his willingness to speak to them directly and, as a result, his reputation amongst them improved no end.

You could be right I have not heard Trembling and certainly when NG came on Radio Nott a couple of years or so ago to answer questions sent in (not direct contact) he did his rep no harm. On the other hand I also remember Platt coming on the then Heart phone in and the guy was absolutely destroyed by callers who only wanted to shout and not listen to any answers.

The reasoned debate argument you suggested is a bit flawed in that you assume that every listener understands the concept o9f reasoned debate which many don't.

I will be interested to hear what he has to say, at least it's likely that he will give some details on the specifics of attempted signings.

I don't really get people's problem this time around.

Last January, we were in for Adebola, Lee Croft and Rob Jones by all accounts and got none of them. I don't think people were that bothered really.

This year, we were in for Victor Moses, Nicky Shorey and Darren Pratley.

Moses and Pratley are arguably the best players in their team and Shorey is a Premiership player.

We were aiming high and missed out on two of them because they went to Premiership sides whereas Swansea were desperate to hold on to Pratley.

I believe we'll get a couple of players in on loan and they'll make the team better. I can take missing out on those players because we were aiming for excellent signings and they moved to the league above.
