It's always interesting really - Mark was a keeper, and they normally have longer careers anyway, and managed to be in our team quite young and (largely speaking) stayed as first choice until he left us, which appears to have been in 2000 when he was in his 30s already.

Though he didn't quite play as much when he was at Boro and Fulham, he didn't retire from playing until he was well into his 40s, 13 years after leaving us in 2000, though the last few years he was presumably registered as a player whilst coaching for emergency purposes as he didn't really play for Chesterfield (4 apps).

I suppose even for a keeper the commitment to training still has to be there, you'd presume that in itself would be equivalent to a full time job in terms of hours, and unlike a fair amount of us who can then just finish work and pig out and slum infront of the TV without it affecting out ability to do our job, they always have to be aware of their condition even when not training and playing matches.

To go from all of that to effectively nothing - which it does when you finish even if you're coaching - is like deserting something you've grown up with, as it would have been something you'd been doing as a kid in the youth sides as well.

I guess some people find that harder to cope with, which is why you get this example (though there was clearly other stuff in his personal life too) and the likes of Neil Shipperley ending up looking like Mr Blobby...

I have a real soft spot for a lot of the Forest players from his era. He always comes across as a genuinely decent, down to earth bloke.

I've had his biography in my 'to read' pile for a while now.

I never get enough time to read.

I agree, there never seems to be enough time in the day, despite me being retired. I never seem to be able to see all the interesting videos highlighted on here or read the books mentioned as well as cook the dinner, do the housework and tend the allotment.

It must mean I'm slowing down. Oh, woe is me!

Comes across as a really likeable chap on the Youtube interviews.

Love his Cloughie impersonations.

I was in the village hall last night, was a good night for a good cause. Did you go?
No and well peed off about it but I had to attend my grand daughter's eighth birthday party down in leafy Surrey. Gutted when I realised the dates classed also I like to support the events a the Village Hall; the organisers put a lot into the events there.
Are you a resident?
