If you really want to see action on how to change the way your club is run - see how they do it in Pretoria! "Amandla Awethu!" (Power to the People)

22nd March 2009 PRETORIA (Reuters) - Former France manager Henri Michel had to be driven away by riot police to escape angry fans after his Mamelodi Sundowns team were knocked out of the South African Cup on Sunday.
A Reuters witness saw Michel being escorted by heavily armed riot policemen and then being bundled into their vehicle before being driven away from Pretoria's Super Stadium with irate supporters chasing after him.
Sundowns fans chanted "Michel must go" after the Cup holders suffered a 1-0 home defeat after extra time by unfancied Platinum Stars.
Sunday's loss followed a 4-1 defeat by champions SuperSport United in the Pretoria derby on Thursday, a result which effectively ended Sundowns' championship hopes.
Michel, who has coached extensively across Africa, took over at Sundowns in October and has had varied results with his expensively assembled squad.
Club owner Patrice Motsepe, a billionaire mining magnate, was also accosted by angry fans demanding the sacking of the French coach. Motsepe promised an announcement on Monday.

South African football is one big f*** up really. How they got the World Cup I'll never know.

You'll probably know better than me but do you hear about some of the goings on at big matches like Orlando Pirates vs. Kaizer Chiefs?

One of my friends went to see some team whilst over there and after a few choice words aimed in their direction were helped out of the stadium by a few of the more sensible fans after getting threatened with being stabbed and such like for being white. Bad enough but when you consider we're talking about a 19 year old girl it's quite sad really.

South African club football has certainly gone down hill since we won The African Nations Cup in 1996. The big problem is the fan dominance of the two clubs you mention above, however Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic have growing fan bases.
The World Cup came to SA because Africa is a footballing continent and SA is the only country with the infrastructure to host it. FIFA quite rightly want the finals to be played on every continent. There is no doubt 2010 will be a great success as the stadiums, hotels and facilities are all in place. Yes inner city transport systems are a problem but that is being tackled now.
As for racial attacks at matches - this is the first incident I have ever heard of. Not many "whites" go to local football matches these days because the standard has dropped and rugby is their preferred sport anyway. (note that "whites" form a very small % of the population anyway) Also they would not take their kids because there is so much dope being smoked on the terraces that everyone gets secondary stoned. Most of my "black" mates don't go to matches either because they prefer to watch in the sports bars with a beer or several.
I will guarantee that the England fans that come out in 2010 will have a great time especially if England get based in Durban with the amazing curry and beaches. Booze and fags are much cheaper over here as well.

I'm hoping England are based in Joburg, because I'll be staying with my Auntie in Observatory!
