Malick Fofana’s has other plans than joining Everton Football Club. As told yesterday, the Belgian Red Devil knows some teams playing Champions League that are waiting to make room in the squad are interested in him. More to follow

It's not necessarily about this specific player, but we're often seeing us linked to players who then either turn us down or suddenly become linked elsewhere. I'm aware of the game agents and journos play during the window but it's still frustrating.

No new signings since the two Brazilians signed, one of which is probably a development player for the future.

A squad that is weaker than last season's as things stand.

Wilson leaving potentially. Who knows what impact this has (if any).

No new contract for CHO yet plus the Spurs and Palace sagas. Granted it's not all our fault but still it's been a farce of a summer so far, just when there was optimism we'd kick on. Hopefully it still happens but it's certainly a little bit more difficult with each day that passes.
All together now...

Think it's less making things up and more getting fed whatever agents/clubs/players want him to say. Proper transfer pawn these days.

It was obvious this was starting to happen for me when he kept bitching about us not playing Santos that year. It made no sense as to why if he wasn't getting something like that, so that is when I stopped following.

Everton have a MASSIVE rebuild to do, they literally are scraping the barrel for a recognised starting 11. and most of them are aging.

Its 5 +.year thing there, not a 2 season thing.
Even though I wanted them to go bust, now they have been purchased they will get the revenue to build. The question is will they spank it like they did the last time or spend wisely.

They have a sensible head there now in Moyes.

This kid feels a bit raw, would be more for European and cup sides than league play, IMO. But his upside could be significant, in the Elanga/CHO vein. Would love to see this signing along with Ndoye

Why are you stating his destination as Everton so emphatically?

It’s just a hunch. We don’t appear to have ever been in for him and there’s a lot of noise around Everton currently with the new stadium etc

We agreed a fee when Textor was in charge at Lyon but the player rejected us.

Widely refuted by French media no?

No idea there, though it was at the same time the Danilo and Turner deals were being done (and the Botafogo lads) so I think it's pretty likely we were given a green light. Didn't Textor try to point Chekri to us as well?

Edit: I'd be very surprised if he goes to Everton btw - don't think he was ever coming to us either.

It seems a very weird situation with Fofana.

Romano has stated Bayern, Chelsea and Liverpool all want him. He has said both us and Everton have been in advanced talks with the player. It feels to me like an agent using the likes of ourselves and Everton to 'push' for one of the 'elite' sides to come in for him.

From the lads point of view, and I mean this as a fan of David Moyes, I couldn't think of a worst team/manager for the lad to develop and eventually get that 'big' move.

I think he'll just be waiting for one of the big guns to move, and if they don't he'll pick from the tier below later in the window, if he wants that type of move.

He's very young but one of the top young wing talents in world football* - he can take his time I guess?

* And like Akliouche, who's a little further on in his development now, because of that I think he's above our station. Lots will agree a fee but there's perhaps 10-15 teams in the world he'd want.

I can't see where Fofana would fit in at Liverpool so calling BS to that.

They've just got Ekitike and already have Gakpo for the left. Got Salah on the right,Elliot and also Frimpong needs be on the right.

Diaz has gone so I can see Isak coming in now and then Nunez leaving after that.

Yep and he's publicly stated that Everton need a minimum of 6 players to be competitive and be the bedrock of their rebuild. That they haven't had much activity yet is because they've had to wait, like us.

After the really big boys have had their pick, and the hopes of players who looking at a potential move to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Real, Bayern etc have been dashed, then its the turn of the midtable PL clubs, of which we are one for the moment, to sort through and pursue to completion.

Now we'll see if the lure of European football, having a bevy of Internationals and a dynamic, higher profile really can help us secure players ahead of clubs that a few years ago we'd have had no chance.

I agree, from the links we've seen so far this summer I see Fofana and Akliouche as the premium targets who are probably just out of reach for us at the moment, while Yilmaz and N'Doye are the more realistic targets who I feel we have a good chance of signing.
