Luke Chambers

I may be completely off the mark here, but when Billy Davies used Chambers at centre back on Saturday, he had a decent game from the reports I've read.

Now, do you think this is where we could see him featuring more regularly now?

I don't doubt that Davies will bring in a centre back in the summer - probably Rob Jones - but I reckon Chambers will be used there more than right back in the future.

I'd love for us to get Gunter on loan again next season and I think our ideal back four would be something like:

Gunter Morgan Rob Jones? Bennett

Without being mean, our ideal back four would have a new left back as well.

That isn't my main point, though.

I was talking about Luke Chambers being used in the way Ian Breckin has been this year - as a replacement centre back rather than a right back.

If that wasn't your point why would you finish with an 'ideal' back four? :p

But yes, I could see Chambers being utilised there - probably as a backup defender in general - as at a pinch he could cover the fullback positions too.

He did do well against Coventry but not exactly against the most industrious of opponents.

Considering how taken Billy seemed to be with Perch , i imagine Bennett's whole hearted approach will also gain favor with Billy in the summer so Billy might stick with Bennett & Lynch (ugh) as LBs. Billy will probably tell him to cut out the silly stepovers though.

Gunter, Chambers, Wilson, Morgan, Lynch, Bennett is a good start I think and I like them all as players. A big, commanding centre back who is good at organising would go a long way to solving our problems I think. Which is what we needed at the start of the season and didn't get.

Obviously injuries all over the shop haven't helped either and that includes the midfield in front of them. Osbourne has been decent at protecting the back four and Perch can do that too.

I don't we're too far off having a team capable of achieving the slightly better consistancy you need to climb up the Championship. A couple of quality additions in each area of the pitch (eg Blackstock) would be great. Where we find a attainable central midfield of that quality from I don't know!

I can see Perch going to right back next season. A new centre back to partner Wes. With Chambers as cover. And a new left back.

Nah. Billy loves him in that midfield. Rightly so, too.

I thought Chambers had a decent game at CB on Saturday and would hope he can continue in that vein.

Billy will def bring in 2/3 more defenders, but I'd hope to see Jules as our left back come the start of next season.

The game at the weekend was Chamber's best for us I think.

Looked like he played at center back since he came here on saturday.

Chambers had a decent game.. but also made some mistakes too (him and Morgan in the penalty area nearly gifting Eastwood a goal).

Although hes a natural CB, I cant help but think hes abit too short.

I'd rather Chambers played CB than Rob Jones after this weekend.

How many people have actually see Rob Jones play? I've seen him on Setanta a few times and he's always been average against what are really crap strikers. His CV in England lists Grimsby and Stockport as highlights, now he's 30 why should he be any better down here.

I think he'd be a waste of money here.

Sorry , chambers would struggle against some of the bigger physical strikers at this level , as did all the defenders. We need someone who is strong in the air.

If you can find for me a dominant world class defender for 600k , please let me know.

Well Rob Jones certainly doesn't fall into that category. :p

Chambers was MOTM for me on Saturday. However, as he's previously been a scapegoat of Forest fans then you'll find most will only rate his performance as "good" or "decent" when really he deserved "brilliant."

Would worry me slightly against a big, hold the ball up centre forward but if Morgan man marked said bloke and Chambers swept up I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Wes battles brilliantly, but that's the problem - he HAS to battle when the CF is some mutant approaching 6ft 5in. Then the ball seems to be bobbing about for ages before it is hoofed clear (or not). It would be nice to get a CB who can be relied upon to outjump all but the most extreme cases EVERY TIME! We need to get a back four together which is able to withstand and deal with pressure far quicker than our lot have for most of the season (although, they have looked better recently). Therefore new centre half needed (or two, if necessary).

My feelings exactly.

I think some have given little credit to Lewis, wasn't a MOTM performance but he showed glimpses of getting back to his previous lofty standards which can only be a good thing. But people still think he's fat/lazy/whatever when he quite clearly isn't. He looked up for the game as soon as he came out the tunnel running round the Main Stand, Trent End and Brian Clough to interact with the fans.

Chambers is still very young but obviously a CB, I'd like to see him loaned to another Championship club next year (as long as we bring in people and he isn't desperately needed) to get a full season at this level at CB to see what he can do then. Somewhere like Donny, Blackpool etc...

Wasn't Billy Davies recently talking up James Perch and how we'd see the best of him when he plays centre-back?

We're going to have a lot of competition in central defence next season...

I would want a 3 new centre backs to replace Wilson,Chambers, and 1 to add compitition.
I would want Lynch to stay, and Gunter to aswell.

I really rated Chambers when he joined us from Northampton over two years ago. I don't know what really went wrong, maybe consistently playing at Right Back, but even after a not-so-good run of games he was still starting under Calderwood and Davies.

I didn't see him play at the weekend but I understand he had a cracking game in his favoured position and I hope he can continue to impress.

As for our back four, good enough for the lower end of the league but we need strengthening to be seriously competitive.

I though Hamza was supposed to be a midfielder these days?

Anyway, I was very impressed with Chambers on Saturday. He looks far more comfortable in that position. He did make a couple of errors, but you could certainly tell that was his natural position. Hard to tell how he'd fare against a really decent strikeforce though.

I thought he played pretty well. No nonsense defending from him which is just what I want to see.

I was quite impressed and perhaps he will be playing their next season. Remember though he has plans for Perch at centre back aswell so god knows.

He didn't actually say Centre Back did he? Could be right back.
