Lucas Bergvall

You sir, are of the glass half full fratenity, which is to your credit.
In my footballing world, we would have been relegated last season if we hadn't had Anderson breaking up the opposition. A quality battling midfielder who can play forward a la Anderson is a must on my team sheet, or we are in serious trouble.

We'll likely play three at the back which negates the need for an out-and-out defensive midfielder somewhat.

The problem last year wasn't defending, it was scoring goals. Got bigger problems to fix than CM.

Can see Bergvall ending up as a makeweight in Spurs big spending spree this summer, they're after Savinho (quoted £80m apparently!) and are now apparently looking at the forward line which is the most expensive area.

Think we'll ultimately miss out which is a bit disappointing to be honest, as I can see him ending up being extremely good for someone, he's definitely leaving Spurs though

Both attacking midfield and a target striker are sadly lacking.
If we don't sign a midfielder who can play the ball we are in the brown and smelly.
Either of those two Sun'land blokes fit the bill, broken wrist notwithstanding.

Maybe. But I still have my doubts Bergvall is much better than what we have.

For each passing day that Forest don’t sign an up and coming young cm to replace Anderson (Schlager not included) the less bothered I am about signing one. Especially that I keep reading how highly rated McAtee is within the squad and how Glasner already really likes him. If he is being considered for the cm role rather than attacking that leaves us with 5 players for 2 positions which should be plenty.
Diomande, full back, striker before the first game of the season and I will be happy.

If it is true Sunderland submitted an eye-watering £55m+ offer plus bonuses then we should run,. run and keep running away.
If they really offered this, I am conflicted - part of me says push it up so Sunderland pay more but that means Spurs getting more money.
Think best course of action to go for someone else, if needed. However, quite happy witht the midfield we have at the moment.
There is no need to get involved, we need other postions like striker where the big money needs to go to.

Bergvall in the starting lineup for the Spuds against Sydney FC… 🤔

But Sangare is a defensive midfielder. The likes of Bergvall, and Wharton for that matter, are not. I struggle to see where the impeteus is going to come without such a player - there's always Yates of course.....seriously.
Sangare is a defensive midfielder who can pick a forward pass through the lines as we've seen on numerous occasions, not to mention the times he gets forward and scores the odd goal. For me (as I've said too many times on here) he's actually better on the ball than out of possession.

Back in the day, we used to call that a 'Deep-lying playmaker' - trends have changed though and all 'playmakers' now seem to be in the '10' position.
That’s exactly what he is. Much more so for me than a ball winner, and when we’ve relied on him for that i think we’ve seen him exposed and out manoeuvred. Anderson sorted that out last year. I’m all for Sangare playing from deep but he needs defensive legs alongside him in my opinion. And we’ve looked confused at times in the past over whether we’re playing through him or through Morgan. Also solved if Morgan pushes wide.

Completely forgot about him. So McAtee is suddenly going to grow a pair? OK, that's alright then.
Not rated as consistent enough by some of us here. Cough.

Clearly still needs to win over the fanbase and rightly so as he was poor for the majority of his appearances last season but I was just going by what I’ve read that he isn’t for sale, also that Vitor on at least two occasions last season talked about how talented he is and now Glasner in a recent interview mentioned him. Can’t have multiple managers praising him yet never use him.
In a 3421 formation that seems likely to see under Glasner would suggest McAtee would be best suited in the cm role and with 3 at the back perhaps not such a need to have such defensive minded cm’s there.

It is a waste of time him needing to win the fan base over, they have made their minds up already. McAtee put in plenty of promising performances in the 2nd half of the season & showed in games he has quality, those that have planted their flag in the ground who spend plenty of time in his thread just aren't interested in acknowledging it.

The honest reason the club persists on telling us how much they rate him is so that fans get off his back and stop acting like spoilt brats.

The more this goes on, the more signing Schlager on a free looks like a very clever move. It gives us some breathing space -- we don't have to be panicked into offering an absurd amount for Bergvall or anyone other CM. We will sign one I'm sure but we'll do it more on our own terms.

Yes, we can afford to be patient in my opinion

There is 2 games before the window shuts, then just 3 in September where you could argue in a worst case scenario that would be a bedding in period.

We are not signing him for 2-5 games, nor would we be considerably weaker without him, or probably any signing to be honest. We have a good squad that needs marginal improvements, not an overhaul.

Different positions.

Foden, Palmer, Gibbs-White are #10s - closer to the main striker, often ending up in opposition box, or around it.

Deep lying playmakers aka #6's are your Carrick's, Rice etc - they take the ball off the defenders and get the ball up the pitch. They have defensively responsibilities that the #10 may not have.

Andrea Pirlo is possibly one of the finest examples of a deep lying playmaker.
