I reckon they would've done, if the transfer wasn't so useful for them.
Tielemans was a free transfer, so £35m profit to be booked for a 29yr old with 2 years left on his contract. He's likely their biggest earner too (due to being a free transfer), or at least in top 3.
Considering their PSR/SCR issues, I wouldn't be surprised if they're not secretly happy with the release clause being triggered - they might have leaked it themselves! Particularly considering they've (likely) managed to sign one of the best young midfielders at the same time, and probably strengthened their SCR position.
Unfortunately it's also a very good 2-3 year signing for Man Utd - not that their 'fans' will appreciate it yet!

I am not sure I agree with that assessment. If Tielemans was on the open market he would likely go for more than that, if they are penny pinching over PSR it will be more suitable to get maximum value from players.

£50m for a player who didn't play a full 90 minutes for them in the Premier League last season (23 appearances, 12 where he was a sub that came and 11 where he was subbed off) in a struggling team - are they having a laugh? I know they need to pay the Tonali/Fernandes bills somehow, but surely that's taking the piss?

If Bergvall comes in I do think that might be end of the road for Yatesy unfortunately. 5 midfielders essentially competing for 2 spots is one too many and Glasner is far more ruthless.

Think yatesy needs a move, can't see him being happy bench warming sadly.
Thing is that realistically - he's not going to find a starting spot at any Premier League team (even the newly promoted ones) and I'm not sure the interest would be there abroad either (at least not at clubs prepared to be competitive with PL wages).
So "a move" realistically means to a Championship side prepared to pay PL wages and even there he'll potentially fall into the same trap - he'll start every game as they get promoted, and then find himself on the bench once they go up.

Just seen Andrey Santos move for £50m who has stunk the place out at Chelsea, couldn't get in to a terrible Forest side and his only success in Europe has been at Stratbourg...
Spurs want £50m, we bid £38m, we will meet somewhere around the £45m mark with a few addons most likely. Personally I am more than comfortable paying that as I can easily see this being another Anderson situation in a few years time, should he reach his potential.
