I'm not so convinced. He's decent, and has been so for a few years now for Leeds and West Ham. But his real purple patch only lasted a couple of months and when he returned from injury he reverted back decent. Not sure I'd drop big money for him.Yes, he's a brilliant player and he can create something out of nothing. If it wasn't for his performances West Ham would have gone down a long time before they did. In terms of a fee, who knows now, clubs are just throwing a price at prospective buyers. There was a time when we could all look at a player and pretty much know what he was worth. Nowadays clubs are happy to pluck a high figure and say that's the price if you pay it great if not f*ck off.
They're also after Kroupi from Bournemouth and/or Summerville from West Ham for c.£80m so they're not finished yet, surely they're going to need to top-up the kitty before long.
Their income is well over £500m so they have plenty of spending power under the new rules.Spudz fans told me they can spend £400m net before FFP concerns kick in.
They have good commercial revenue and the CL run to bolster the FFP equation , leveraging it to prioritise football following years investing in off field activities.
Agreed, he's not worth anywhere near £80m even in this market imo.I'm not so convinced. He's decent, and has been so for a few years now for Leeds and West Ham. But his real purple patch only lasted a couple of months and when he returned from injury he reverted back decent. Not sure I'd drop big money for him.
He had a good month spell last season, apart from that he was distinctly average & when it mattered he vanished. Is Summerville really all that? I know he was ok for West Ham in patches after Nuno came in. We got £55m for Elanga last summer which I thought was ok as I could never see him breaking in to the £80m plus barrier. I know the market goes up and fluctuates and it depends on other things. But I’m not sure I see a £80m player especially as he is nearly 25. It’s not like he’s a young kid.
Rather get Jimmy SomervilleHe had a good month spell last season, apart from that he was distinctly average & when it mattered he vanished.
I agree with your assesment
Sounds like my sex life!…apart from that he was distinctly average & when it mattered he vanished.
The bastards.I'm not sure if you've heard, but evil Nottingham Forest have reset the whole market, Gobias.
And this is why (unless we massively increase incoming revenue by moving or revamping the CG, or they change the rules - none of which are happening anytime soon) we will never be more than a good cup team flirting with top 10 and europe, same as the other 5 or 6 clubs in the second tier of the top tierSpudz fans told me they can spend £400m net before FFP concerns kick in.

Glasner and Syrianos schooled together with similar beliefs - data driven , belief in the intense press. Will transfer targets change now Glasner is here? - deals like Bergvall might be dead in the water now.
Hopefully some stability. We need that in approach after last season.Glasner and Syrianos schooled together with similar beliefs - data driven , belief in the intense press.
Syrianos targeted OG when Nuno was hired
Now he has the bigger remit - he can more readily implement his ideas.
My view then is that Glasner arriving won't alter appetite for current targets, unless he has cheaper better options, that fit the targeted player profile
He's primarily a No8 rather than an attacking midfielder. Jones doesn't come with the injury issues that Luiz had and he's played over 150 games in the PL which is significantly more than Hutchinson.I don’t get the enthusiasm for Curtis Jones. I have the same feeling I had when Edu signed Luiz and Hutchinson last season. He’s not what we need, because we’re well stacked with attacking midfielders.
What we need is what Granit Xaka is to Sunderland i.e. authority, intelligence and quality.
Maybe Bergvall will become this but I don’t see it in Jones.

Anderson missed 25 games through injury the year before we signed him.Only 20 years old but already had various injury issues. Missed 15 games last season.
I was thinking on the same lines, someone like Ross Barkley maybe? Has played as a 6/8, experienced, been around a while, out of contract, was a Coventry target but seems to have gone quiet on that front.I don’t get the enthusiasm for Curtis Jones. I have the same feeling I had when Edu signed Luiz and Hutchinson last season. He’s not what we need, because we’re well stacked with attacking midfielders.

Yeah I think they had issues. I think Ange’s methods got the blame in his tenure because it was relentless, a bit like Bielsa at Leeds. You aren’t a Spurs player if you don’t miss half the season injured
I actually had a look to see if they sold anyone with a terrible injury record in the last few seasons & it got better but my god they are so bad as selling players.Yeah I think they had issues. I think Ange’s methods got the blame in his tenure because it was relentless, a bit like Bielsa at Leeds.
Then last year having different managers and a switch in training methods three times got blamed. There must be something underlying as they have had two years of bad injuries.
