Luca Netz

I like him. I don't think he's been quite as good as the last couple of pages have made him out to be but he's competent enough and that's enough for a back up 22 year old that cost a million quid and is still learning.

I actually think we've done exceptionally good business on our backup defensive unit: Savona, Jair, Bindon and Netz are all decent and we've paid less than £20m for the lot. They'll be important next year if/when we lose one or more of Murillo, Williams, Aina and Morato.

Shame Savona is still injured as he would have played a significant part in Europe. Even in prem it would have been interesting if he would have played at Centre Back or if club see him only as a full back.

Just looks so mature already. He also has the physique for the PL which is a huge plus. Starting to look like our recruitment hasn't been so nad after all.

Alan Smith said Cole Palmer would relish being up against Netz😂
Poor old Palmer got into bed last night and probably expected to find Netz had nipped in and stole his pyjamas.

I thought he looked decent coming off the bench before, but that performance yesterday was genuinely exciting, I thought he looked fantastic defensively and going forward

As good as winning a trophy will be for us as fans, its players like him that almost make us need European football as he looks like someone who could be a great player, but the occasional sub appearance wont be good for him

I listened to forest focus last night and it has to be said that that Temps was talking out of his arse when it came to Netz.

He seems to think that Netz is nowhere near PL level and was pedestrian going forwards and he's way off it. I'm sorry, what??

The lad has barely played and yet he's looked very promising. I must have been imagining a couple of runs when he drove the length of the pitch forwards. Yes there's a couple of things to work on but with more minutes we've got a very capable deputy for Williams.

Sorry Temps but you're way off it here.

I also thought that was an unusual take and a bit out of character for Temps.

Looks like he can only get better to me, and right now he is doing exactly the job asked of him.

Yeah I too thought he put in a really promising performance.

Defensively he did well enough. I don't think Palmer was on top form so he benefitted a bit from that, but he did the basics well - positioning, engaging, handing off players etc, was all done with a reasonable comfort level.

I was more excited by his attacking play though. Carried the ball really well, cut inside, went outside, took on players, laid it off and moved for the return... We've genuinely missed a full back that can do that on the left hand side. Neco is great but he isn't that overlapping full back that someone like CHO is crying out for to create space for his inside runs.

We can rotate that left flank nicely now imo, with MGW and Neco as first choice, and Netz and CHO and backup. Those combinations offer something a little different so can be selected according to opposition too.

This partly what irked me about Temps take on him. He seems to think we need someone just like Neco otherwise he's not good enough. It's the opposite, we need someone a bit different so we can switch things up tactically and it means Neco doesn't get flogged to death.
