The results are in…

…and Andy Reid has won the award of being the best Forest player since 2000. Reidy won with 20% of the vote with Dawson coming second with 15%. Jenas won the bronze medal, collecting 31 votes. A pleasing 241 of you took part, thanks to everyone who voted.
Obviously these results don’t reflect the views of [...]

I find the results more than a little bit surprising...surely people can't have that short memories? Andy Reid had probably more games where he was slated for being lazy than praised for being a genius? Dawson and Jenas were both more consistant.

I think that goes for every forest player ever.

Commons being the most recent to have left and now people are calling McGugan lazy and getting on his back. Also Smith is getting a lot of unwarrented stick.

So much for getting behind your players. :D

Not sure about that. His career here started a little slowly and ended on a bit of a sour note, but the man was a wizard.

A true hero, I reckon most fans appreciated his contribution right to the end.

He also kept us in the Championship virtually single handedly under Kinnear, and was doing his best to do that again when he left for Spurs.

Not the impression that reading the internet at the time would have given. I remember a lot of posts on several boards calling for him to be dropped and replaced by Commons (Note to Alannis Morisette:- THAT is ironic...)

There was a vocal minority that would chant "Greedy" at him.

Personally, I couldn't blame him for wanting out. If I'd been offered the option of no longer having any connection to Forest at that particular point in time, I most certainly would have taken it. without doubt the most depressing period of my life as a Forest fan.

So, above Francis Benali, Colin Calderwood, Adam Proudlock, James Henry and Keith Foy?

What about John Terry?

Proudlock is an excellent player, and very well thought of at his current club.

I was talking about him a couple of weeks ago when I was last there.

What's consistency got to do with it? If you ever voted on consistency, Gazza, Maradona, Hoddle, Best etc. could never have been been voted as the best at anything.

The vote was for best Forest player, and the last time I looked 'Best', by its definition, meant surpassing all others in excellence.

Andy Reid met this requirement during his time here, right through until his head got gargantuan and he buggered off to Tottingham in 2005.

Reidy could indeed be a bit of a nob both on and off the pitch. However, by virtue of him being an occasional b****y genius in the Garibaldi (when he could be arsed), by having turned down Moan U & the Arse to join us and by saving the Running Horse on Canning Circus, he'd get my vote everytime.

It frustrates me that Forest's most talented player currently at the club at any given time is berated for greediness, laziness and petulence. There was Reidy, then there was Commons, now it's McGugan. What people need to realise is that as an attacking player you can't be all that consistent in producing moments of magic and scoring blinding match winners. Attacking is the hardest job in the game, it's a lot easier to be consistent as a goalie, defender or defensive midfielder, hence why these players often don't get the same stick.

What makes players like Ronaldo, Kaka and the rest so amazing is the consistency with which they can produce such moments of magic. Players at our level won't manage it quite as frequently, but I think you've just got to be grateful for and patient with a player in your side that can change a game. When Commons would shoot wide from distance to groans from the stands, I always admired him trying a similar shot minutes later. That's a lot braver than playing the easy ball and is necessary if you want to win a game.

Surely Dawson and Jenas are better players? 8)

Jenas would have got my vote.

Reidy's certainly achieved more than those two since leaving - established international, team captain, blues bar in Nottingham... Jenas and Dawson are just sick note former England players these days.

Couldn't agree more. If you want to watch flair players succeeding with nearly everything they do, don't watch 2nd division football.

Lovely. I am about to become an established international captain (lets face it America are toss) and regularly enjoy a liquour or two down pub. Clearly therefore I've achieved (or will achieve) more than Jenas and Dawson.
