I always think a good winger should be able to perform both roles. Capable of playing on their 'natural' side, keeping the width and putting crosses in, whilst also being able to drive inside off the 'wrong' wing, opening up the outside channels for the full backs.
I thought this played a prominent part in our good form last year. Cohen (not really a winger, granted) playing slightly narrow, giving Gunter the space to overlap down the right with Anderson looking to cut in off the left, allowing Shorey the space, not necessarily to drive forward like Gunter, but to be able to pick passes/crosses and link play down the left.
I agree though, the purchase of a left footed wide option should be at the top of Billy's recommendations
