Liam Rory Delap

I have to admit I've liked what I've seen of the Delap monster so far. Stupid yellow card the other day, and that is one aspect of his game he needs to channel differently. He should watch Lewandowski. Lewandowski is an absolute beast, extremely physically strong, and he was very selective of letting center backs know they were in for a battle with his fouls. He'd take his share of cautions for whacking center backs (and then watching them limp away) but he knew when and where to do it. I am quite sure he's very low on the number of red cards. Always in control of his emotions. That is my one concern with Delap. He looks like a guy who can be goaded into things.

I like payers that play with passion, but petulance is another matter.

I can forgive bookings when someone is trying so hard it gets a bit out of control, but silly fouls that Delap did by pushing is out of order. No need what so ever, did not help us. In fact it puts a target on his back as other players will be looking to get him sent off.

However, I do like the other parts of his game, and at the moment it looks like we may have got a good deal as long as he grows up and stops acting like a child.

He took no end of stick from the centre-backs, with little protection afforded by the ref or VAR.
I thought he was fortunate not to incur a red when he deliberately elbowed at one point.
It would have been harsh, I know, but that was just the sort of incident being hoped for by a centre-half.

Agreed, but having that more mature mentality at 23 is a very rare thing.

I think he'll develop it as he gets older, but who didn't want to just f*** & fight everything in their early twenties? Especially if you were brought up in competitive environments where said things were often praised and rewarded.

He'll get there with the right guidance.

Agreed....but for the time being he needs to watch that flailing elbow- it might unintentionally get him into trouble.

He got 16 yellow cards last season.
Refs do spot this and maybe are more likely to show a card.
And if the elbow is involved, or a show of studs, the yellows will become reds.

No he didn't. He got 4 yellow cards last season.

edit: in the league. He got another 3 in the league cup (2 vs Wolves)

You have to remember the Captain used to be an accountant so numbers may not necessarily be his strong point.
Who was he an account for, the Mafia?

Rather than silly Yellow cards, I'd rather he got a top quality filthy Red card whilst taking out a CD or GK. Especially if they had made all their subs.

But as we saw V Cov, oppo' players will also play to this and buy cheap free kicks at every opportunity. He has to stop it, it's working against him.
I think I must have been mugged by an anti-Forest person somewhere.
Delap didn't get 16 yellow cards last season.
Unlike Trump, I had no intention to mislead anyone.
And BS is right - Delap is making it easy for defenders to get free-kicks.

He now wears a Forest shirt = 1 yellow card
Do you genuinely believe that?

Stats suggest otherwise.

Looking at the last PL three seasons , and teams that played in every season, Chelski have the highest incidence of total cards given 2.7 . Citeh the lowest 1.58 . We're 11th out of 17 at 2.02. Of course, Delap's behaviour has contributed to Chelski's score but not by that much

This trope that we somehow get targetted by refs doesn't really bear scrutiny - unless someone has a different metric.

Joking

Wrighty giving Liam a shout-out pre-match before Croatia v England as a potential Harry Kane successor.
