Liam Riley Tribute

This week we've seen the untimely death of yet another of our servicemen in Afghanistan, a young lad from Sheffield called Liam Riley, a fanatical Wednesdayite. I ask you to join in a tribute tomorrow afternoon at 3pm to his life, and all the others who have made sacrifices for our country. We'll be singing 'one liam Riley' at 3 and i hope you'll spread the word and join us.
Cheers

I'm in. It would have been worth contacting the club about it in advance as they could've made some kind of announcement.

Many of the home fans won't be aware of it, but I'm sure those that are will be supportive.

Our "local" regiment, the Mercian, have always enjoyed a warm welcome at the City Ground.

If the Wednesday fans start up a chant, I'm sure the Forest contingent would join in. I know I'll be there, and I would!

RIP Liam and respectful condolences to his family and friends.

As per usual, we start our match with a stirring rendition of "City Ground" at 3 pm, this normally raises the roof. I hope OUR JOINT tribute to Liam will be even louder.

I am an ex-seviceman from the Falkland conflict, I was given a huge welcome home from family and friends, some of whom I didn't even know. This meant an awful lot to my family and I. I hope this tribute will give some small amount of comfort to Liam's loved ones.

ONE LIAM RILEY, THERE'S ONLY ONE LIAM RILEY.....

Amen to the thouoghts & sentiments on this thread.

I hope someone at Forest reads these things and can act in time to prime the PA man before the game.

I'm in.

I've been through all the Forest contact numbers to see if there's one which is related to PA announcements. The one which the club lists as being the correct one is 0115 982 4450. This is also, however, listed as a corporate number. I'd suggest that a Wednesday fan tries this number or, failing that, the main club number (0115 982 4444) to ask for an announcement to be made over the PA system about Liam Riley so that he gets a fitting response from all sections of the crowd.

The club tends to be keen to honour our armed forces so I'm sure they'll be only too happy to accomodate a request of this kind, provided it reaches the correct people in time.

I hope this can be pulled off and everyone joins. If you get the P.A on your side then it has every chance.

Just read the Wednesday board in the link posted above.

It has really hit home reading that, from the emotional message from his brother, to learning that he died helping a fallen comrade, to the fact he is only 21, to all the messages from those who knew him and those that didn't.

I truely hope this is heard across the City Ground today, and that Wednesday recongise one of their own however that may be.

God Bless

jumping on this thread and not wishing to hijack it. Just received an event notification on Facebook for the unvielling of Kieron Hill's monument.

The monument will be located at the side of the library on Southchurch drive in Clifton (by the main shops) with the unveilling will be between 1300 & 1600 on Sun 18th April 2010 - Kierons 21st Birthday!

It will be good to get as many trickies down there as possible to show support

Excellent tribute to a brave lad. I'm at the other end of the ground so not sure if the chant will reach round there. A minute silence would be a nice gesture.

Just so you are aware, at about 2.59 our PA plays our club anthem and most of the crowd sign along. This will probably drown out the chant if you do it at exactly 3pm. When the mull of kintyre ends their is a lot of prematch excitement kind of noise. Give it a couple of minutes after the game kicks off for the crowd to quiten before you to start your tribute.

Nice one. Could you post her response? I was just about to contact the club myself but if you've been assured that the stadium announcer will pay tribute to him, then there's no point me making the case as well.

I doubt the club will want to set precedents to be honest. There won't be a problem with people singing his name though I'm sure.

Mav's at the game now anyway.

Glad this got some airtime at half time.

Didn't hear any singing though from the TE
