Far have we travelled

First Team Squad
No

Ipswich have been given a free ride by everyone this season & he's another part of it, he has been elevated to the new messiah by the football media based on a good start to the season.

He's physical & mobile, that's about it. I'm glad he's not coming here. He's got more yellow cards than he's scored goals over his first team career.
He looked crap against our 2 centre backs.

Bad decision on his part. How much starting time will he even get? He'd have been perfect for Everton or for Forest, and got European football with us. Sit in and develop himself over a 24 month period and then look to move on from there. But no. Just wants the freaking cash. Am I a little bitter? Maybe. Will we get better? I hope so. Fingers crossed.

Not sure why there's even a thread for this guy. Bang average but played for man city at some point so is automatically worth £50 million. Can't even see that we ever had any interest. There better value elsewhere. Wissa for £30 million ISH is exactly the type of player to enhance the squad

Not even slightly disappointed with us not getting him. I want better.

I think he'd have suited our game but I'd like to think we can get more value on the continent.

Unfortunately due to our league position we might have to get used to being pipped to our targets by the big boys this summer. Sort of like when we first came up and it seemed like every target we were after was signing for an established PL club over us.

There's nothing new there I suppose but our negotiating position is nowhere near as strong as it could've been. Hopefully the recruitment team have a few much lower-profile targets ala Milenkovic lined up.

As others have said I never thought he’d come so not disappointed. I would have liked him though tbh. For him Everton would have been a good move. I think the pressure at Chelsea will be on him and he’ll probably be shipped out on loan.

Shame, would have been a great signing, especially at 30m. Fairly low risk move with a guaranteed return in the future. Good player, that’s why several of the top 7 teams wanted him.

You only have to look at the Cunha to united transfer to understand name/status trumps everything.

Imo we'll get the players we want once the twat six have had their fill... and we'll attract a higher status than last year due to the season we've had and not being everyone's relegation certs.

Couldn't even get remotely excited about him. He could end up as another Dean Windass type player.

Marmoush was the last one I was really disappointed we missed out on.

I just don’t see the likes of Marmoush and Cunha coming to Forest when the ‘Sky 6’ are in the hunt and they are
already established top strikers.

We need to be scouring the globe for up and coming talent who are off the radar a bit-the Premier League is
a big draw.

I have to say I think Chelsea is a really poor move for the lad, it seems an odd choice with their penchant for buying hundreds of players and then barely playing a lot them. This has Dewsbury-Hall or Danny Drinkwater written all over it. The best move for his career appeared, quite clearly, to be Everton in my eyes and it certainly looks to be more of a money move than a footballing one. Can't say I was ever enamoured with him coming here, but picking Chelsea just seems totally off.

I don't blame anybody for taking a chance going to a Chelsea. At worst you play a few league cup games, earn a shed load of money and end up being sold or loaned to another half decent team.

I think at 22 it is a big couple of years for him and his progression. If he went to Everton he goes to a big, high profile club with passionate fans. He apparently would prefer the north west as well so that is another tick. He gets to play the majority of games so will continue to develop his experience. He would be going to play for one of the best mangers who will develop him and look after him off the pitch.

He’ll still earn a lot of money but could well be moving higher up the chain when he moves, rather than taking a step down when he inevitably leaves Chelsea in 2 or 3 years time.

Think our league position plays second fiddle to the £££££ the teams above us have the power to offer at the moment. Our turnover/wages ratio (or whatever it is!) is already around 98%

There is that but I feel some players can also improve training and playing with better players. At Everton he'll get experience but it'll be mostly playing hoofball.

How isn't that the case for Chelsea?

You get more money & get to test yourself at a higher level. If I was a Premier League striker I would look at Jackson and say I can take his place.

Even if it was a split choice between coming here & Chelsea, Chris Wood is here - who actually is significantly better than him. Chelsea is a no brainer for him, even if he takes a step down in 2 or 3 years - he will then end up going to someone like Everton who he was going too anyway.

But he’ll play more at Everton in a better environment rather than the kneejerk chaos at Chelsea. If he moves on from Everton it’ll probably be a move onwards and upwards rather than a backwards move

He's from Derby so anywhere would look good, even Scallypool

I am not sure that Chris Wood is significantly better than Delap.

Delap is 22 and is an up and coming player who looked ok in a relegated side. Wood is 34 and played most of his career in the CH before a couple of good years in a Burnley side who usually stayed up before getting a move to Newcastle where he was useful for half a season before not playing much and being sold to us. The first season he was injured and the 2nd he wasn't amazing then Nuno came in and he got a bit better in terms of his output. Then this season we found a way to play to his strengths and he had a massive uptick in his goals compared with any other point in his career. But it's difficult to see how long Wood will be able to play at this level or will register a season like this again. In a better side there is a chance Delap would have a better return.

Wood is a good finisher when the ball is put into him. He is not slow and moves well but is not quick like a lot of forwards and isn't really a hold up striker, compare with someone like Mateta who is quicker and holds up better but has similar finishing ability to Wood. Delap is probably not as good a finisher as Wood but is more mobile and a better hold up option. He is very strong for a young player. Tactically he needs to use the option of falling to the floor when challenged less as he won't get the free kicks unless playing for a VAR team. But he has potential to improve and be a regular PL striker which is why clubs are sniffing around him.

If he came here (which isn't going to happen) he would probably be backup/cover for Wood but bearing in mind he would likely replace him in the next couple of years.
