LEWIS McGugan has vowed Nottingham Forest will be determined to deal a blow to Derby County’s recent upturn in form and avenge The Reds’ FA Cup defeat.
The sides drew 1-1 in the league at Pride Park in November before the cup Fourth Round tie that saw the Rams come out on top in a replay at the City Ground.
But for a player who grew up in one of the mixed Reds and Rams fan territory in Long Eaton, McGugan is aware more than most of just how much of a blow three points over their rivals could be in the game on February 21.
“Everyone can’t wait for that, you see the likes of Sav(Robbie Savage) celebrating after the game and it’s just one of those things where there is nothing you can do,” he said.
“We’ve just got to wait until they come back and we’ve just got to be really on our game and really let them know we’re there.”
“To be honest the FA Cup is important and everyone knows that but to get the three points over them in the league would be a double blow for them.”
“We’ve got a lot of work to do between now and then but once that’s out the way then it’s bring on Derby.”
“In the replay they’ve got lucky on the night, and we know we’re better than that, we’ve played them three times and it’s gone their way each time but we look forward to getting them back here and cause some damage to their form.”
The 20-year-old also explained his frustration in an “up and down season”, not helped by a four week hamstring problem back in September.
He added: “It’s just been one of those seasons this year. I just want that season to be able to play through without injury all season but unfortunately it hasn’t happened this time, but I’ll keep on going.”
“We all know the ability is in the dressing room, and we know we’ve got to get it out there. In the last month results have more or less gone our way and we’ve looked right on the horizon of real progress, we’ve just got to keep on doing that.”
“Sometimes you get chucked into situations you might not be able to cope with and it’s about whether you can come out on top and I think everyone’s done themselves proud and kept going.”
