Hello all, I have observed this forum for a while, along with serveral others and i thought it was about time for my first post.
The fallout from yesterday's post-match scenes and comments by several D*rby players and staff led me to write this letter.
I have already mailed it to DCFC, in the hope Savage may get to read it - i thought id post it here too, to see how correct you guys thought i was...
Dear Mr. Robbie Savage,
I am writing to you in regards to your post match comments after the Forest - D*rby game on Saturday 29th August. As I write, I have just watched the football league show on the BBC and sit with a taste of disgust at the absolute hypocrisy of some of your comments. Being a season ticket holder at Forest, as well as a life long fan, I was in attendance at the game and saw for myself the events that unfolded at the final whistle. Your comments seem to bare little resemblance to the actual events and should only be seen as no more than attempting to get Nathan Tyson into trouble with the FA.
Firstly, I would just like to point out that although you acknowledged your own celebrations after last season’s victories, you did so incorrectly. Indeed, you did celebrate with your own fans in the lower tier of the Bridgford Stand, but you also taunted the A block (right corner of main stand) by kissing the D*rby emblem on your shirt. This was also made much worse by the fact that you were in an away ground, where the majority of supporters would be offended by your behaviour. Secondly, it is clear that Tyson was on a lap of honour around the ground and was simply celebrating with the Forest Fans in the upper tier of the Bridgford stand, before making his way along the Brian Clough Stand. If you would like to check footage of the incident, you will see Tyson is looking upwards towards the Forest fans rather than down at the D*rby fans. Thirdly, had several of your team mates (Dean Leacock was certainly one) not run the length of the field to begin an altercation with Nathan Tyson, the scenes we witnessed would simply not have happened. Fourthly, I cannot understand for the life of me why you brought up the West Ham - Millwall game in midweek? The scenes we witnessed were nothing like that, and as such is offensive to both Forest and D*rby fans, the stewards at Forest who did so well to keep fans from joining in (unlike at Upton Park), as well as anyone hurt during the chaos at Upton Park. Any comparison between the two is frankly ludicrous as the trouble was over in a matter of seconds, causing no injuries, being only between players and management staff and not continuing outside of the ground. I cannot help but feel you have jumped on the bandwagon in an attempt to get the FA to act crushingly towards Forest in response to the trouble at the Upton Park. Finally, if any player “should take a look at himself” surely that player should be you? Although I acknowledge that you are the captain, what right do you have to be in the referee’s face every time there is decision that goes against you? Your wind up tactics to get other players booked/sent off have always intrigued me too. One particular incident that sticks in my mind is the booking of Gareth McCleary after you had fouled Raddy Majewski clumsily. When McCleary pushed you off of Majewski, after you clearly attempted to ram your knee into Majewski’s chest, you jumped literally 5 feet backwards in an attempt to make the situation seem worse than it was. In my book, this constitutes to little more than cheating.
It is clear to myself, and many other Forest fans, that there is little difference between what you did after your victory last season, and what Tyson did with the flag. Both events show passion, which is certainly welcomed by fans and a lot of joy at respective results. However, had we accused you, as you have accused Tyson, I believe that we would have simply been told to stop the “sour grapes” and accept defeat graciously. Forest made nothing of your behaviour at the time, but if you are going to make an issue with the Nathan Tyson flag waving, and subsequently the FA does, resulting in a fine or ban for Tyson, I think the punishment should be equal, and you should receive exactly the same as Tyson.
The game was very enjoyable on Saturday for myself, as you can imagine, and I think it is a great shame that both the D*rby players, management and fans decided to ruin the end of a very exciting game. The admiration I once held for Nigel Clough has all but dried up too as a result of the events at the end of the game and his well disguised press interview designed to get Billy Davies, Nathan Tyson and Nottingham Forest into trouble. I suppose for now we shall have to wait and see what the officials at the FA make of it all, but one thing is for certain, Nigel’s dad would never have appointed a proven cheat like you as club captain, and he himself or any of his players would never have made such accusations.
I would wish D*rby County and yourself the best of luck for the rest of the season, but after yesterdays debacle I hold you and your club in even higher contempt.
Yours Sincerely
Tom Douglass
