If you could have one of the above named 4 players who we've been linked with since the close season who would it be? I'd be tempted by snodgrass but mainly to piss off leeds

i'd prefer whittingham as hes a better crosser, ball player and goalscorer than say tyson or boyd, who are both played as out and out wingers. I think that with Anderson and Mcleary on the right, and winger is not needed so much on the left, perhaps more of a wide midfielder, allowing two central midfielders, rather than a 'drifting' chris cohen.

Whittingham has got to be first choice, experienced and proven player in the Championship and can bag goals to boot.

Boyd is proven at this level but he was very inconsistant at Forest and his hair is too long for Forest and he is slow. Posh are wanting too much for him and it might be January before he comes to Forest, if he ever does... for free.

Snodgrass is unproven at this level but would be a good replacement for Tyson if the price was good.

Given that Ambrose signed for QPR 2 weeks ago, I'm declaring him out of the running.

Any of them will do. Just having a left midfielder in the squad would be nice.

Or so it was reported at the time. According to CP he hasn't been sold yet.

Whittingham top target with Snodgrass as second choice.

I dont understand the title of the thread. There was never a left wing dilemma imo just the need to sign someone better than we already have. Not like the left back position where we had no one to play so just had to stick anyone there.

I'm not too sure why we need a left winger, surely a right winger is needed more?

Anderson looked brilliant when playing LW this season - or is he going to play from the right?

Meaning that the new LW will start on the left - and Cohen or Raddy gets dropped?

or will Anderson get dropped (which I think is a terrible decision). A player like Whittingham would be a quality addition but would mean one of cohen/raddy/ando to miss out in a 4-4-2 formation!

Totally agree with your sentiments, but speaking to an employee of Nottingham Forest before the second leg of the Play-Offs against Blackpool he said Billy Davies preferred Tyson over Anderson. Asked why ? The manager was disappointed with the overall form of Paul Anderson, and believed Tyson's distribution, crossing and passing was better. This comment worried me, as the matches Paul Anderson started, the team have looked a far better unit with additional avenues of creativity, attacking and passing through the inclusion of an attacking midfielder. Results and performances overall this season have been far better when Paul Anderson has played on the left in his natural position. Whether Billy Davies will listen, thats another matter.

nathan tyson is good enough - 0 votes

nuff said, he's good as a striker to run past tired defenders, and miss the subsequent one-on-one, if we have Anderson and Whittingham, then they can both play on the left and right, which i feel is ideal for switching wings throughout the game. I also feel that McCleary is a better option as an impact player than tyson, his pace and skill are immense.

Agree with the sentiments about Tyson, though i think hes a decent striker and could well be worth keeping as a different option to earnie and blackstock, especially if we let mcgoldrick/garner go over the summer. As a winger though he has always looked out of place and would be surplus to requirements should we get Whittingham. Whittingham/Anderson/McCleary/Cohen are fantastic options for any championship side. No real need for Tyson in that group.

It's less about the need for a left winger, and more about the need for wide man who is left footed.

Cohen should always be central, and Tyson too up-front. Who else do we have as a winger, (Boyd excluded) who has a decent left peg?

It's all about balance, just as it is with the left back position.
