Left-Back Options

With Shorey's permenant signing looking unlikely and our awful track record of making signings in the January transfer window, who do you think is the best option in the squad for the position?

I think Cohen would do the best job based on his performances earlier in the season, but I am sure Billy will be loath to play him. His work rate and labour in mdifield is such a vital asset to the team that his talents will be largely wasted in the full back position. However playing him there would open the door for Tyson to return to the team.

Wilson was poor when he played there last season and his talents should be kept for the centre of defence. Perch had an awful game yesterday as has already been well documented and it is apprant that playing a right footed utility player is not going to work.

I wouldn't mind Lynch being given another go, he did improve towards the end of last season and looked OK when he was played there in the opening weeks. Plus if he wasn't good enough why on Earth did we sign him in the summer? We knew exactly what we were getting.

I actually thought if Perch was given the run around yesterday, like he was we would swap him and Gunter round to provide some stability. We know how good Perch is at RB so surely that would be the natural swap?

Maybe Cohen is the short-term answer. Then let the Moose loose from the start. Perhaps we can still get Shorey back on loan?

I agree. Everything seemed to go down the right for Derby - they definatley targetted him as a weak link, and I think it paid off/

We need a permanent solution to the left back problem. Cohen and Perch and short term solutions, but a Shorey's performances have provided Forest with a balance and confidence to put on the displays that have allowed us to score 4 or 5 goals a match.

If we can't get Shorey to stay, we need to get another left footed player into that position. I was at the Birmingham City match when Gunter was played on the left and he was ok, but the team was unbalanced, and Gunter kept having to cut back inside to cross the ball with his right. With Shorey or another natural left footer, they can whip the ball in first time which is more unsettling for the opposition.

What's the latest on Julian Bennett he seems to be the forgotten man in all this.

Yep this still looks a formidable team. Win the midfield and it will take off a lot of pressure at the back. Even though it looks like a 4-5-1, in the space of 5 seconds it soon becomes a 4-3-3. Very threatening. This spells the return of the Red Arrows.

If transfers elude us then this is the formula for promotion in all away games and a lot of home games.

yea Cohen should definitely be used there in the meantime based on his performances there earlier in season, and if we don't get anyone else in. Perch just doesn't cut it in that position-square pegs. Either Moussi, McGugan, Tyson or even McCleary could then step up to the plate and fill the midfield slot depending home/away or the opposition.
