Derby and Nottingham Forest are battling it out for Norwich winger Lee Croft, 23, on a free transfer.

Found it on Press Talk on OS.

I think he would be a good signing especially for free.

Well I guess we're competing at a similar level (1 point apart in fact), I suppose it's likely we'll identify similar players to try to build more competitive squads.

I suspect if we are battling out with Derby for anyones signature we'd be in the driving seat?

Not necessarily, they'll get another cheque from the Premiership won't they to help with higher wages?

But I may be, and probably am, wrong on that one.

You'd like to think we are ahead of them in that respect. We've stayed in the league we came UP into, they have only just survived from coming down, with a huge squad and a massive parachute payment behind them.

I'd like Croft at the club, be a good acquisition

A good lad with a good attitude who is still improving...the words of a friend of mine that works at Norwich City.

Yes, they get another parachute payment this season to the tune of £20m or so. Only paid to a club if they fail to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Sickening really, the bias toward the top league. "If you're relegated, don't worry - here's some money to get back."

Yeah it is, just an absolute joke. Having said that, I still can't see Derby challenging next year. As much as Clough (while being a turncoat) is a Forest legend and will always be loved, I can't help but think it's a big step for him, much like Ince and Blackburn. Nige will get time though because of his status.

I digress, Croft for Forest ;D

I think Croft would be a good aquisition. He's impressed whenever I've seen him and, at 23, has plenty of time to develop. He's out of contract this summer so we should get him for a fairly low fee, depending on the compensation we are ordered to pay. If we get him for below the 400k we offered Norwich in January, then I will view that as a bargain and excellent business.

He is a very good player should be snapped up if given the chance.

For the grand price of no pounds and no pence I don't see why we shouldn't take a chance on him. Worst case scenario we lose a bit on wages (which wouldn't be astronomical) and move him on for a small fee.

Was he the winger who pissed all over Chambers at the cg, he a cracking players if anderson does'nt sign we should be after him. Although i think i could piss all over anderson at right back.

Saw an interesting statistic about Croft - 160 crosses last season, only 3 resulted in goals.

If that is true either Norwich are very bad in the air or he can't cross a ball.

I think we definatley need someone who can put a ball in the box. Spesh if we can sign Big Dex.

Lee Croft is signing for Derby. I know I'm new and you won't believe me but they are currently in advanced talks with him and as soon as his contract runs out at Norwich he will check in to Prideless Park.

Would you rather have anderson or croft? If we somehow manage to sign Ando we will have got twice the player croft is!
